Give latejoin sec an antag token if they would have rolled traitor
#1
Question
Sec can be a bit underpopulated at timesĀ and there's a disincentive to joining it because "maybe this time you would have gotten late join antag".

Players usually value antag tokens so the chance of receiving one could be a good incentive. The antag token is more valuable than getting a late join traitor but your chances of getting late join aren't great anyway.

Risk is someone wanting an antag token joining and disconnecting/afking if they don't get one but I think the % chance of getting late join is low enough this is a bad strategy? It will also increase the number of antag tokens around.

antagonist tokens are for when an admin ruins your traitor round and feels bad. they're an apology, not a currency.

absolutely not.

I don't think that's a good incentive. The way they work they disrupt the general flow of antag assignments and would probably be best kept to minimum.

Latejoin antagonists generally have less time to do their things and aren't considered to be a real full antagonist round, just a quick spice-things-up throw-in. Giving people antag tokens in this event is disproportionate and would potentially encourage people to join just to farm for tokens. I don't agree with the low chance being deterrent for that behavior, because considering that point the other way around it wouldn't be a good incentive to join as a security officer either.

The alternative I considered was a spacebucks incentive but I'm not sure that would be sufficient motivation. A token has much more wow factor and is probably very successful at motivating someone who gets one to try again, which can counter the sometimes depressing life of sec.

I believe late join antag doesnt effect round start antag chances at all so becoming a late join antag is just a bonus.
I understand you want to incentivize people joining as sec but I dunno if this would be the right way.
Though I do agree with buying antag tokens with spacebux. Wish that was a thing honestly.

Play sec because you want to. The game is balanced around security being optional; all crew members have a variety of ways of dealing with threats without them.

If you're not enjoying yourself as security officer, just don't. This is a game, not a day job.

What, so people have something to abuse by joining in, biblefarting, and taking up a security slot that could be taken by someone who, gasp, actually wants to play security?

How

Bout

i don't think the sec late join idea would be good and could be really problematic but i do like the spacebux for antag tokens idea it would have to be really expensive tho something like 100k which takes forever to get about 150 hours or so unless admin shnagines like casino boosts you. could be a fun use for spacebux because currently they have basically no point.

I wouldnt make them THAT expensive. I'd say something that would take like I dunno, 20 rounds to gain. Usually after 20 rounds I definitely feel like murdering the entire crew. Or make it 13 rounds for themes.
Dunno why I'm acting like it would even happen in the first place though because I was told last time I had this idea that under no circumstances would it ever be possible to buy a token.

yah idk antag tokens seem taboo or someshit i remeber one round of nukies where i was commander and a glitched unkillable shell like the starting small ones just destroyed the nuke we put 3 sniper rounds in him and beat him up and he just sat there and destroyed the nuke with a crowbar for 6 mins and that wasn't enuff for a antag token i guess its specifically in the moment that a admin fucked up your round that they might give one.

I don't need additional incentives to play late join security.

Hard no from me.

Spacebux already have a point and I am not going to list up the cool things one can buy with them.
Your view is not everyone's view - don't state it like yours is objective. It is a subjective perspective.

Nah.

The intention here is good though, so I can understand Katzens motivations here. Security DOES suffer from late-join enrolment, but I don't think the antag-cheese-on-a-stick is the best course of action. It would encourage the wrong sort of mindset and as Technature pointed out, it might even encourage antag fishing.

This is a far-cry from the OP, but one thing I've always liked as a concept is the NTSO. They are late-join combatants who very much feel like reinforcements. They are picked because they are fresh, they feel unique.

I think there should be a NTSO-lite option for security that latejoin in 15-20 min rounds. They're still sec officers, but like the NTSO they're NT. In fact, they should be blue. They could also take orders implicitly from the NTSO if present, otherwise they follow the HoS.

They're effectively the same as security, however they could have a minor quirks that set them apart:
1. They have cold resistant clothing that makes them more combat efficient in depressurized environments, BUT with the caveat that they are not space worthy.
2. They have a NT stun pistol (name:??), which is just a small pocket taser, at spawn. Lower capacity, one mode. Effectively a back-up gun.
3. They have a NT flash (name: Immunizer?), which is the same as a normal flash, but does not burn out.
4. They have a single medpak.
5. All of these things + standard armor + token.

As you can tell, these are minor additions that are "NTSO-lite". This is not the return of TURDS, but rather a tiny bit more "readied" officers. I think it would add more flavor to the game with the whole dichotomy of Blue n Red and NT being a little more hands on. What do you guys think?

I like your suggestion sundance but wouldnt that bring up the problem of no one round starting as sec and instead always late joining because latejoin NTSO-lite or whatever is just better?

I think if anything, late joining Sec should get gear to help out any existing Sec. Maybe some of those Blue glazed donuts you get in the support of loadout, or an extra battery cell.

Honestly, giving Late Join sec anything beneficial means a lot of people are gonna late join instead of Readying. Maybe make it if it's a Half hour in or something.
