Reason for application:
I truly enjoy playing Security, and have noticed that the rounds that have a Head of Security present tend to go much more smoothly, both for the Sec team and for the crew that depends on them. I’ve really enjoyed trying out the HoS role on Fridays as a Mentor, and would love the opportunity to bring that sense of stability and guidance to the Sec team when it is needed on any day of the week.

Security experience (300 word minimum):
I waited for quite a long time before trying to play Security as a SS13 player on Goonstation. I don’t consider myself a very assertive person by nature, and the idea of choosing a role that was (from my perspective) intended purely to confront people and be a barrier to fun. Over time, by watching and interacting with good Sec players, I learned more about how much the Security team can truly make rounds better, by adding the order that balances the chaos. I started playing Security during low-population rounds and rounds that had a Head of Security present, and tried to learn as much from them as I could. Each HoS had something different to teach me about how to be a good Sec player, and I have taken those lessons to heart.

As a Security officer, much like when I play Captain, my main focus is that a good story is being told in the round. If someone is silently murdering as an antag, I will do everything I can to stop them - not because they are “valid” as an antag, but because they are silently ending stories. If someone else is an antag who is engaging with people, creating interesting situations and conflicts, and keeping the murder to a minimum, I will do what I can to play my Sec role while enabling the antag to keep going.

When it comes to the “petty crimes” around the station, like underage drinking, public urination, filching insulated gloves, or the MD carrying their own rifle around in front of Beepsky, I always try to err on the side of discussion and lenience. I approach them with the idea in mind that they have simply made a mistake, and that if I can help them navigate the situation, we can both be on the same team. When all else fails, a funny ticket will make a point while giving everyone something to laugh at, even if they immediately fold it into a hat or use it to roll a joint.

As Sec, I would rather ticket than yell; I would rather yell than arrest; I would rather arrest than chase; I would rather chase than injure; I would rather injure than kill. Almost everyone can be saved and keep enjoying the round with the rest of the crew, even if they have to be a borg to do it.

Answer two or more of the following:
  • What advice would you give to other sec players?
    • Be willing to “play stupid” and be ridiculous or be the butt of a joke. Don’t take yourself too seriously!
    • Respect can only be earned, never demanded. Don’t insult people or treat them like they are less intelligent or important than you. When you are wrong, CALL YOURSELF OUT.
    • Label your security pinpointer.
    • If you make a mistake and it isn’t serious, write a funny ticket to yourself.
    • If you make a mistake and it IS serious, ahelp yourself. Act in good faith.
    • Know that other people, especially new players, are looking at you to figure out for themselves what “good sec” looks like. Be the security officer that you want to play with as an antagonist or bystander.
  • What was one of your favorite security moments? (Either playing as a sec officer or interacting with one)
    • On one security round, I stepped off the shuttle as a latejoin and saw someone run past me in the hallway while marked for arrest. I was the only security officer, and it was only a few minutes into the round, so before I had time to get my loadout I started chasing them down the hallway. We had a hilarious run all over Donut 3 before I finally cornered them and was able to get the cuffs on. I dragged them to the brig and chucked ‘em in, but rather than set a brig timer, I wrote them a ticket for “making me run all over the station before I had my morning coffee” and drank a cup of Robust Coffee while making eye contact with them through the brig door. When I released them, I cleared their arrest status (they were a Jailbird) and pretended not to notice when they nicked a few non-harmful objects off a table as I escorted them out. Later that round, they helped me deal with the actual round antagonist!
    • There was also that time that I was a Security Officer and made a mistake so bad that someone posted about it on Reddit: https://i.redd.it/7ak7j4d0qhr51.png. I called myself out over the radio for it, and had this entertaining exchange:
Quote:Fleur DeLaCreme [145.9] says, "So, ah. If anyone is... ever ztuck in Dizposals... do not press ze button next to ze Crusher... it's not ze "let zem out button." I would like to request a mop and a therapizt."
Nikolai Sergeyev [145.9] says, "Fleur, did you..."
Nikolai Sergeyev [145.9] asks, "Did you grind someone?"
William Ward [145.9] asks, "Fleur...?"
Fleur DeLaCreme [145.9] says, "Not on purpose..."
Nikolai Sergeyev [145.9] says, "Oh god..."
William Ward [145.9] says, "Oh my god."
Jason Powers [145.9] says, "this is a great time to mention that our station has a functional cloning bay"
Jason Powers [145.9] exclaims, "come get scanned before officer DeLaCreme crushes you to death!"

  • What game improvements or changes do you think would benefit security players?
    • Neither of these are my original ideas, but I will take this opportunity to signal boost them because I truly believe they would make the lives of Sec Officers better!
      • Make it harder to packet hack into the Armory and the HoS Locker. Now that there are YouTube videos on how to do this in mere minutes, it’s too exploitable. It’s important that the HoS is someone that the crew can trust.
      • Please make it to where sec officers keep Security Training when cloned! (In my opinion, traits like Saurian Genetics and Medical Training should be kept too, but I’ll specifically call out Sec Traning here.)

Answer one or more of the following fun questions (because it's important for the HoS to be fun):

What's a security gimmick that you've ran or wanted to run?
    • A good old mid-round group lunch. It will give us a chance to discuss anything we’ve picked up on that could turn into an issue soon, to integrate new trainees into the force proper, rotate assignments if needed, and make sure that when the excrement hits the oscillating device, nobody is starving or dying of thirst.

I have combined writing a poem and drawing a picture.
I’m fuzz and cute
but no mere bee,
cause I’m Head
of Bee-curity!
Don't let me catch you
doin’ wrong,
or I’ll bust out
my HARM-BEE-TON!

There is no one I can think of that is more deserving of a beret than Jan. She is the epitome of kindness and courteousness, has a very level head, is immensely knowledgeable, and is incredibly fun to be around and play with

I have played quite a few rounds with her and I have been nothing but impressed by her professionalism, her calmness under stress, and the charisma she shows throughout every interaction with people across the station. She takes time to speak to anyone and everyone, and has forged incredible relationships very quickly with anyone she comes across.

The perfect mentality and perfect personality to be a head of security and a genuinely fantastic person.

I could go on but that should suffice.

Yes! Jan is always very helpful and kind as Fleur. I've had a number of good rounds playing with her in Security, as AI on RP1 and as fellow Security Officer on RPO. She was on my first Security team on RP where I got my first antagonist arrest with her, and seeing her latejoin in with me was such a relief. It's still like that every time I see her on Security!

I think that she has a fantastic understanding of escalation and punishments for crimes; and this usually results in some very meaningful and interesting antagonist narratives that do better to involve a host of people at the right level. Her work in Security and her calm and inclusive approach uplifts a ton of people within a round, and I think giving her the beret would better magnify those effects. I have so many round stories I could share of all the times she's been exceptional to me and to those we've played rounds with, but I won't bog this post down! :+)

Recently I've been trying to play sec more and get confident in that role and it's not a exaggeration to say Jan is my insperation for that. Also it's not a exaggeration that in those rounds I've asked her to join as sec so I can feel more confident and have a trustworthy friend I can look too as I learn. She's incredibly compassionate, shockingly robust, and there's been multiple times she's acted so well as a HOS (on fridays) I've forgetten she's not one permantly.

Yes.

Wait, I need to say more? Jan is one of the security officers out there making rounds better for everyone, including the antagonists. Plus, HAND TYPED FRENCH ACCENT. In SECURITY. This is great. We need a french HoS.

Really though, Jan is all the nice things described above - level headed, relaxed, and with a great sense of escalation. She's done great work on Fridays, and would be a credit to the server on the other 6 days of the week as well.

+5000? Can I do that? big grin

Yes, I've been enjoying seeing Fleur playing Secoff and getting more and more confidence in the role. She has a wonderful personality and a good rational approach to playing Sec on RP. Extremely fair in the way she deals with both the crew and antagonists alike, and always a joy to interact with, whatever job she's in. I think she'd be a great addition to the beret team and look forward to playing alongside her in Sec when it happens!

I've seen them around in Security and they're absolutely a great person to play with. Above anyone else I can think of they understand what the goal of Security and SS13 is: To tell a good story. They already use a HAND TYPED FRENCH ACCENT, it would be a CRIME not to give them the beret.

Definitely got my +1 Fleur RP's as a sec quite well and gets engaged with the cases she works

I've only recently started playing with Jan/Fleur recently, but I always come away with a great story. Sometimes it's emotional, sometimes it's hilarious, but it's always memorable. As a security officer, I always feel safer with her on the team, and that the crew are safer with her on the team.

Easiest +1 I've given yet

I feel strongly biased supporting this since Jan is a friend of mine, so I will try to put some reason in before I say whether or not I support this app

Jan is absolutely someone I trust to make a round interesting. They have said multiple times that they are willing to die (in-game) if it makes a good story, and have LOOC'd them multiple times asking if I can fuck with them (usually as AI and one time wraith). It can be said that she doesn't really care about 'winning', which is absolutely a good thing, since it nullifies the drive to powergame to 'win'. It's already a bit obvious since she's a mentor as well, but she can absolutely be trusted with meta-knowledge and not abuse it, either from MHelps or otherwise, or just telltale signs that a specific antag is around (husks, zombies, emags, etc.). Seeing someone try to, in-game, figure out what the fuck some baddie actually is, is quite fun to watch and participate in!
They are also very much so a competent officer. Unfortunately, I've had little direct experience with them as I usually play AI and thus can't get baton'd or hold my own tickets, but regardless, I have seen Jan communicate frequently over the Security radio and assist other departments as needed, as well as participating in shenanigans during slower rounds to help liven things up.
Some side-points. Jan is absolutely not the person I would ever expect to power trip as well, since they always have a friendly demeanor both in-game and out of game. She also absolutely has experience with many many roles, I'd imagine having played most/all jobs at least once or twice, including the silicon and antag roles. That last part isn't a huge deal, but it's nice to have a well-rounded HoS player who can adjust their gameplay to make other peoples' experience better, as they're more likely to be able to understand what those other people are doing (e.g adjusting how they may law an AI since they know how painful paragraph laws can be and how fun interpreting laws can be).

Overall, I give a +1. Again, I feel heavily biased, but I hope my above mini-speech can at least express why I give a +1

+1, having Fleur in a round is always a good thing, especially when she's security.

Jan is a very good officer to play along with. She supports the team and makes everyone feel save when on station.

She also knows the right amount of force to use when dealing with antags and is quick to shut shitty antags down.

I haven't seen her lead the security team, but I definetly saw her do a very good job being a leader as captain so I don't think that would be a problem.

Definetly a +1 from me.

yes.

no other words. just yes.

I cannot think of any reason why Jan shouldn't be added to the HoS whitelist. Absolutely one of the friendliest and most trustworthy security officers we have. Need I really say more?
