Artifact Spookin'
#1
Quote:You hear a voice in your head... You have done well in activating our artifacts.
The mysterious giblet vanishes into thin air!
A splattered monolith suddenly warps into existence!
An imposing crystal appears nearby in a flash of light!
A horrible edifice appears at your feet!
A humming pile materializes out of nothing!
A janky thing suddenly appears in your hand!

Activating artifacts = getting rewarded(?) by having more artifacts appear, plus spooky/strange messages from... somewhere. Also some way to trigger this, so that you can "offer" activated artifacts?

Needs to be more ominous and cryptic.

I could see this being more common than a genie or activator but rare enough to not be seen constantly.

I personally would just like artifacts to just... appear slightly out of view, like the King in Yellow.

the more artifacts you activate, the more they seem to appear around you and the more fucked up their effects get.

Progression would be nice. It's quite annoying spending a lot of time teleporting every single artifact from the debris field to the station.

you also should see more artifacts of the same type and perhaps custom "thank you" messages in various languages like Martians speaking in their tongue, robots in binary, eldritch in R'lyethian.

Martian artifacts start becoming more weaponized. Biological weaponry like prison artifacts that torture you with noxious methane gas, bomb artifacts explode into boiling stomach acid, and air artifacts that periodically spew out smoke containing viruses.

Precursor artifacts become more unstable. Surgery artifacts will replace your limbs and organs with artifacts that do interesting but overall detrimental, injectors randomize their chemicals, mutation-granters give empowered versions of mutations and irremovable disabilities.

For context for the unstable surgery artifact, a person may have their butt replaced with an artifact that makes them lay toy eggs when they fart.

Wizard artifacts would straight up be annoying but usually fixable. Noisemaker artifacts will deafen people standing around it, gravity artifacts will throw stuff at random targets, generators act like powersinks.

Eldritch artifacts are the most dangerous artifacts but a few are harmless. Warp artifacts stalk their activators and teleport away if anyone gets close to them, forcewalls will slowly shrink until they crush anyone caught into a meatcube, and wishgranters will grant people their wish but enslave them to their otherworldy desires.
