Materials Influencing Instrument Playback

It'd be fun if the instruments you painstakingly make with matsci were like screams and farts in that they're pitched differently based on some number! I don't know what number it would be, but there's probably one that most materials already have (like hardness or density) that could be borrowed to calculate how high or deep the resulting sound clips are. Gives a reason other than novelty to learn how to make carbon fibre saxophones and butt harmonicas.
