tracking implants

UrsulaMejor Wrote:On another note, it'd be cool if you could somehow put in the adjustment formula for the round so that once you've figured it out once you could use normal coords for things.

like, have the ability to custom adjust variables, with the implication that you could use the inverse/opposite of the respective adjustment variable to restore it to normal.

Or something like that.

Then you could make the tracking implant lock on button just automatically put in the coords of the person you're trying to kidnap. If you've got the equation already figured out, great! Send them a lion. If not, it won't work quite right

The former probably shouldn't happen because the idea is that to use telescience you should have to figure out the formula, not just use the one that James Fucklaw plugged in at 5 minutes in.

As for the latter, I agree with the others that the lock on isn't a good idea.

Hell, if we want it to be grief resistant, have it make a red message in the chat saying "a portal begins to open around such-n-such" which they can resist if they want.

It eliminates a lot of cool possibilitys, but it is still cooler than not having it in the first place.

It also eliminates any real grief factor, even if it basically was limited to one little thing to begin with... even tho it is super obvious who is being the criminal in that situation and is really easy for Sec to stop, or any head, or a simple request that the AI depower telesci or any other imaginative way... but ya know, it stops you from needing that i guess.

Still haven't heard any compelling reasons why being able to lock onto implants is a bad idea. It's not like they can hurt you or trap you or really do anything to you with prior preparation.

You guys are only either exaggerating perceived threats or subscribing to laziness.

There's plenty of reason given, but you just aren't accepting them.

I'm asking you straight up, how would you plan to take precaution against someone that injected you with a tracking implant? The fact of the matter is now that person simply has a button to click on the telescience computer, given they had barricaded the teleporter room, while whoever they implanted needs to run like hell to medbay to try and find someone willing to cut out the implanter before it's too late. The suggestion is just a glorified race between two players and it'd be really, really lame even the first time its done. Shit, it's not even a race if the guy who implanted his victim has a buddy.

The fact a tracking implant is still very useful now to find a person on the GPS list is not just good enough, it's absolutely perfect. Sure you need to input numbers, but it's better than a button that might aswell be labelled "Kidnap". Atleast you have to do some work to do your high tech crime.
