New nuke loadouts suggestions/comments
#46
I was gonna say, they should have some kind of throwable weapon. I was thinking a bunch of throwing knives since they could use them as melee weapons, but I kinda like the idea of the melee fighter being all about disarming, so something they throw that makes people drop stuff?

Currently working on a Melee based class. Main weapon causes knock back and can swap between a ranged stab special attack and a swipe. Thinking about giving them a variant of the sec Barrier and a suit of heavily protective armour that blocks them from being pushed.

Give the shield knockback but not the weapon unless they use the special attack. From all my time playing video games I know that knock back with your main attack and the enemy has a ranged weapon just ends up meaning death for you. Maybe instead of the special having knockback it would be using the weapon on disarm that would push them away?
Also I vote for the syndie melee weapon being a sickle or a hammer. Make sure its stronger than the fire axe though.

Why would you bother with a weapon that doesn't instastun like csaber?

Yeah, when you think about it, knock back is the opposite of what you want. They should be trying to close the distance between them and their target to force a melee fight where they'll have the advantage

Then, you also have to think about how they'll synergize with their teammates. Are they going to be more for keeping people from rushing to melee or pushing people back into their teammates gunfire

Thanks for the feedback, friends.
I'd envisioned the class being an area denial tool, blocking an entryway being immovable. The knockback was intended to manage the mob of crew storming the point, knocking people back out of the area and in to the path of the ranged classes. Still some things to think about, both with the basic kit and any additional gear.

You wouldnt get the cool armor if you just bought a Csaber but you are correct that the Csaber is one of the best melee weapons in space

Armor is a liability - you are WAY better off stealing your first kills clothes, then wrecking havoc behind their back - it's ridiculous how well it works, even with a c-saber stapled to your arm nobody bats a eye
To add one more thing to c-sabers utility, it works VERY well at straight up bruteforcing thru doors, making short work of any overzealous AI's

How about some sort of sapper class.

Comes with special door breaching charges that destroy doors without really damaging the surroundings (you're basically just blowing it out of the frame), a container filled with regular breaching charges (maybe with special super explosive ones and ones that actually use thermite for use in confined areas), armor with a bunch of explosion resistance, and some sort of thematically appropriate weapon. Might be kind of redundant with the grenadier but I was trying to think of military roles that haven't been used yet.

Maybe they could also get moderately powerful bombs with the signaler, so they could hide one outside of the nuke target and detonate it when a bunch of people run through.

Hmm. Does the grenadier already have armor with explosion resistance? Im never sure how close I can be when firing off the grenades

Nah, they just get the regular specialist combat dress, which is pretty much same as the red space suit.

Damn. They should have some kinda resistance to explosions.

I'm open to tweaking the armour numbers, especially given how much control I have now via object properties

Nukie grenadiers should still fear their own explosions because the class is outrageously strong even with getting caught in the edges of your own blast. If you didn't have to sweat that, well, it'd be bad news. Firebrand has a good reason to be immune to their own nonsense, so it can be part of the nukie "front line", but the grenadier is very capable of popping and killing everyone at the screen edge.

They should definitely have some resistance. It's all about the balance of usefulness and potential backfire.

I know that Frank mentioned it earlier on the thread but Rain2025 on Discord mentioned the idea of a hacker class again. What kind of tools could we use to effectively mess with people using this? Maybe a device that randomly interacts with network components? A new program to make spoofing of PDA messages easier, or more annoying/interfering?
