Softlock Mutini
#1
Made some mutini, one of the mutations it gave did this:

And then

Im not sure what "     the water" is or why he couldnt get out, but maybe mutinis shouldn't make people vanish into thin air permanently

This is caused by mutini granting the effect of the Dimension Shift (/datum/bioEffect/power/dimension_shift) mutation, then removing it; because removing yourself from the pocket dimension requires using the power again, and you no longer have it, it becomes extremely difficult to leave without admin intervention.
Previous report with some more info here.

So does that mean Tristan manually activated the ability to shift himself?
#4
Pretty sure this is a feature.

Anything that physically stops you from playing the game, outside of death itself, is kinda shit.

Bugs especially.

This is the exact effect of a regular backfire of Dimension Shift, iirc.

Great. ANOTHER mutation that has an RNG chance to instantly and permanently remove you from the round if you use it at anything less then 100% stability.

It is not.

The actual backfire of a dimension shift is a lot cooler and involves paranormal entities eating you or something, if I recall correctly.

What's happening here is basically the dimensional equivalent of a memory leak. You enter a pocket dimension with a specific number. Your genetics saves that specific number. If your genetics shift or you somehow move to *another* number (i.e. with vampiric or wizardly powers), suddenly the universe loses the reference to your specific pocket dimension. Now you're stuck unless god (an admin) intervenes.

yeah, its not the power that's broken, its using the power while under the effects of a mutini. this should stay in the game, imo, since it really doesnt seem that gamebreaking and if you get stuck, its entirely your fault.

It shouldn't because it's a serious bug that WILL ruin someone's entire round if no admins are around to rescue them.

If it's something that's SUPPOSED to leave you trapped in an unplayable void forever, it should just kill you instead.

Few things are less fun than watching yourself stand helplessly with no way of even moving.

you suffocate after a little while (since youre in a container for a while), but i do get your point. i never thought about it as serious because ive seen it less than five times ever, but it can ruin fun.

So you're saying that admins should save you from your own mistakes?

This is a bug. While we look into it use dimensional shift with caution.

I'm not going to derail this any further.

Here's a (likely incomplete) list of things besides mutini that can cause this bug:
Phase shift
Mist form
Synchronized Biomass Manipulation
Mutadone
Eating something containing vanilla while in the void, if you're unlucky
Voltron
