AI Watch Dogs Edition; aka give AI direct access to the crew records
#1
Give AI a clunky camera accessible database app that either has read access or read/write access to security/medica/crew records.

Worst Implementation: Ai is given a law that treats the clown as Captain, so it edits clown's records to give full access.

Slightly less worse implemantation: Security needs someone to set the traitor to arrest, instead of having the AI find a sec computer and do it, they can now right click and edit the traitor's record, or see if a record even exists, straight from the cameras.

AI watch dogs edition

Maybe said clunky App could let the AI determine network IDs for doors and what not. Basically pretending as if AI has direct access to the station's database through it's cameras. Captain could be a bro and tell the AI to give data to the mechanics.

I suggested this in the ideas of questionable quality thread and people seemed pretty receptive to the idea, so I figured I'd give it it's own thread so it could be fleshed out or more noticeable.

Basically, an AI should be able to pull up someones records with a click on them through the camera and edit their Sec records, door access, bank account, and all that fun stuff in a tab or window

As someone who plays AI despite feeling more like "guy watching TV in arms reach of a laptop" than "sentient superintelligence", this would help a lot. I can't overstate how much this would help immersion and general not-being-useless-ness.

Maybe add the function as described, but contingent on there being at least one of the correct computers on the network, so if someone depowers or destroys all the sec records computers you lose access to that information.

What's the expected interaction here if someone doesn't have an ID (and has a gas mask so is "Unknown")?

What's the expected interaction if their ID doesn't match them (e.g. "Joe McAssistant (as Dick McCaptain)"?)

What's the expected interaction if their ID doesn't have an account? (e.g. had the registered name changed so that it doesn't match the central records, or is an entirely new ID given the wrong name?)

What's the expected interaction if their ID is registered to someone with a record, but it isn't them and they have a gas mask so appear as them?

Just playing devil's advocate here, as a regular AI player on #1 I love the general idea but think some of the weirdness needs exploring.

It gives a subject identification error and won't proceed. However, you could assign a tag to that person and correspond it with an entry in the database.

It gives a choice to view and alter the records of either the person or the person's ID.

If the person's identity is visible, it'll work off of that to determine who it is, and throw back errors if you try to look up their ID.

Probably something like that.

I'm like 300% sure you can edit the crew manifest via sec records, its just annoying. making it a little easier would be good tho

I just feel like AI should have direct access to a lot of the Computer stuff that the crew has access to. As if the AI is physically connected to a lot of the networks and devices in the station while the crew merely uses the technology, it's part of the AI.

e.g See a printer? perhaps Ai can print messages with it by clicking on it and sending the right packet. Someone breaking into security? Maybe Ai could click on that figure and set them to arrest on the fly, or bring up a database window that can set them to arrest.

For unknown personell, maybe it just errors out.

This is probably a dumb idea but what if the AI could interface with literally anything electronic, even handheld electronic things. "Pubbie Mctraitor is running around with an egun lasering people, help AI" and the AI can bork his gun or something. I feel like the AI is more a sentient door stop and house light control program at this point rather than HAL 9000.

I'd think it'd be interesting if the AI had to hack into those things, and it would start acting strange in the process.

I really wish the AI could interact with more electronic stuff. It would make it far more of a wildcard, give it ways to interfere with, help, or just interact with and mildly annoy/please the crew. Like being able to mess with a guy's gun to throttle a rampage, USING THE VENDING MACHINES HELLO MAKE THESE WORK SO I CAN GIVE PEOPLE FREE MEDICINE, et cetera.

Really just part of an overarching "please, god, make AI not shit" initiative. I've proposed a sort of AI point-buy skill system in IRC once.

So basically building on previous statements and putting some of my own forward. I like the printer idea. I just feel so fuckin' handicapped as AI that it's ridiculous.

Please no, the AI doesn't need the ability to restrict access more than it already does. Laws along the lines of 'Captain is the only human, remove all door access from non-humans.' sound about as fun as beating your own head in with a toolbox.

I agree 100%.

I agree 100%.

I mean, that's one of the few things you can do as an AI. Maybe they need more fun shit before we talk about how lame the things they can do are

Wait so they can already do that? I thought they could only lock down doors currently. That's pretty disgusting if true and only makes me want to kill switch them more then I already do. I'm all for them having fun things. But I rather avoid giving them lame things and saying they are fun for everyone rather then avoid any discussion on things that can be lame altogether.

AI cannot change peoples access remotely, think frank misunderstood. and ai shouldnt be able to do so
