Phaser Suicide Busted

Last night I buckled myself to an office chair and attempted to use the suicide command with a phaser in-hand. The menu came up, I had the choice of holding my breath, using the airlock next to me, or the phaser. I selected the phaser, and shot myself in the head. I took no damage at all. Any further attempts at suicide were foiled because the game told me I was already committing suicide and to be patient.
