Traitor Item: Beta Wave Emitter
#1
I thought about this while thinking up makeshift weapons. Of all the cool gadgets traitors get, there isn't one that revolves around critters.

Enter the Beta Wave Emitter (costs 8 TC), a remote-like device that a traitor can use to control mobs and critters that aren't player controlled. Wielding it in hand makes all non-player-controlled mobs and critters (referred to as units) in visual range friendly to the wielder. Yes, this works on all 'units', including but not limited to braindead players, yetis, plasma spores, space bears, space bees, birds, and even owls. Have fun.

The remote has three different modes: Select, Move, and Target.

Select is self explanatory, allowing you to select paticular units to command with the latter two settings.

Move is also self explanatory, allowing you to move selected units like in an RTS, with the units clustering around the tile you select. If no units were specifically selected with Select, every unit in visual range will head to the specified tile.

Target, when used on any other mob or critter, usually other players, will single out that one person or mob for aggression by selected units, or every unit in visual range if none are selected, the units only stopping when the targeted person dies.

What do you guys think?

Find some chump/accomplice and get them the Shield of Souls from the Lavamoon. Have them be devoured by zombies over and over again. Then rally the hordes against the station.

Go into the Theta caves. Get the queen bitch spider and the King Wendigo, as well as all of their friends and family. Turn the station into a spider-infested wendigo hunting ground.

Venture into the debris field. Be the pied piper to gather all of the drones. Unleash cutterdrone hell onto the station via the mining shuttle.

Jesus christ, dude.

This.
This is why we need this.

So basically a dedicated traitor can zerg rush the station.

I'm okay with that. Especially if an admin spawns several custom jobs with these remotes and has them do animal fights.

Become the one beast master to rule them all.

This is an utterly incredible idea, why would you NOT add this

oh the possibilities are endless i look forward to pulling off epic last stands against the tides of horrors overrunning the station. and also that one round where the crew gets its shit together and manages to repel the invaders imagine the look on the traitors face.

A locker with dozens of bees in it is already terrifying, imagine all of them pissed and out for your blood. It's like a whole precinct of beepskies and you are the bad guy. Beautiful!

Bees you say?

If this gets implemented, we'll finally have to cap the quantity of bees that can be produced. (which has been a good idea for ages due to lag possibilities)

the device's high telecrystal price makes it fairly reasonable, but there may need to be certain limits on the power of beings it can control. the x-drone is just sitting out there in its lair after all

it would be cute to hand fire extinguishers and knives to the diner crew tho

hmmm

this would also risk making many adventure zones too trivial in the occasional even of friendly traitor helping crew solve mysteries

so rather than something that universally works on all critters and mobs, consider dividing it into more specialized items ie fermid bug-bait, syndicate drone controller

If I recall, someone was working on reskinned HUDs for critter control, so this would be a perfect way to implement its use.

I would say restrict it to a specific job-role, so it doesn't get overplayed. Misto's idea for enemy-specific items sounds good. Give a syndicate drone controller to the robotocist, Fermid Pheromones to the scientists and Space Bear Bait to the assistants.

Traitor Head of Personnel should get a brain-controller for the braindead staff.

Decided to bump this to see what people in 2017 would think of it.
