Make gems worth something/remove them
#1
So in the current code gems from mining are absolutely worthless, they aren't really that great for anything and they are worth jack shit for cargo. My idea is either to take the gem tier system and price them like that, or just straight up remove them.

Colored sparkle particles
(Also, gems are good for lenses in the crafting system WE DON'T USE ENOUGH AAAA)

Fun idea: Use custom lenses made with gems to change the laser color on the engineering power laser. Add some "rare" gem that makes a rainbow lense, in addition to some fun station altering events like wormholes from a tele crystal lense or something.

well the crafting system is like 90% useless right now, there's stuff you can make, but most of it either doesn't do anything or needs to be put in something else, sometimes those something elses are entirely unique, like the captains antique laser, or are currently useless, like arrowheads and the improvised weapons.

They're actually quite handy as quality boosters for smelting. The top tier ones always have maxed quality.

They'd be more useful if the material system weren't perpetually unfinished.

Changing c-sabers/toyswords and laser/egun beam colors with them would also be fun.

Horrible idea: Strip out a toy sword and reinforce it's casing; add a powersource, lens, wiring, and a beaker of plasma; assemble it all into a makeshift csaber (or maybe psaber), the quality of which is determined by the sum of it's parts. No stun, peak at 25 damage or so, with badly made or even average ones having a chance to blow up in your face.

This actually sounds like a pretty cool idea, it could scale so that an absolutely perfect sabre only has a 1% chance to explode in your face while a horribly shoddy one has a 25% or something along those lines.

Please never suggest a method of getting c-sabers as a non-traitor, thank you.

I feel like it could work if you have to take one of those animal shock backpacks, screwdriver it open and replace the battery with a much much bigger battery, then add wires that connect it to the toy saber. So you have to wear this electrical deathtrap in order to use your laser sword and it's prone to blowing up because you made it with stuff you found around the station.

I like that idea, the jankiness of it sounds pretty fun/thematically interesting.

They're shitty c-sabers that are more than likely to get you arrested/killed because perfect materials are incredibly hard to come by and even if you use those it's got a chance to blow up in your face.

For a slightly less murder related suggestion: Could we put fancy lenses in flashlights, PDA flashlight modules, hard hats, etc. to change the light colour?

Seriously, there's all these fun options for lighting and the means to use/create them. but it's not in the code yet.
