Bee based idea
#1
Dear admins and fellow players

I wish to share with you a gimmick I came up with (with the help of my friend, torack). It is very much a work in progress but the basic idea was bee based as the title suggests. The idea goes like this, A player spawns in as a hive lord (or swarm lord, I can’t decide what sounds better), the hive lord spawns on a separate ship/shuttle that is like the bee station that currently exists (or you could just use the current bee station). Along with the hive lord, there could be a few other roles, such as warlord, high priest/royal birther, hive acolyte, some kind of bee-ologist or science bee person (could just be the priests side role), bee cultists and so on. my original idea which I am entirely willing to hear feedback and additions for, was that the hivelord could have maybe an admin or someone/thing acting as the ‘voice of the hive’ or hivemind to direct him and give him arbitrary bee based objectives (possibly a separate role, an equivalent of the ai for the bees), the warlord would have some objectives like “train warriors to defend the hive” or “Offer protection to the main station” or something along those lines, the high priest might have either the same voice as the lord or random objectives like “Birth # Bees” or “convert the unbelievers”, The acolyte would just be the assistant of the hive and just do whatever he’s told, the bee-ologist guy could be in charge of the genetics and science side of things, so like a doctor who does healing and genetic modifications or birthing procedures, the cultists could be basic staff in the proper station (or just hanging around the bee station) who also spawn with objectives like “Contact and be assimilated into the hive” (become a bee mutant and get to the bee station) or “Volunteer to become a birthing vessel for # Bees”, obviously the acolytes would just have things like “assist (specific hive member) in their duties” and the ‘bee-ologist’ would have objectives like “study and implement possible physical and mental enhancements” and “provide medical advice and administer healing/surgery to hive members as needed”. One of the ideas that torack came up with was that the members might spawn in with a reskinned sleeper pen filled with histamine, which could maybe regenerate over time and/or another weapon that is a one use sort of panic weapon that instantly injects the target with a high dose of debilitation type drug in addition to royal intripobeedril. Also just as a side note I don’t really want the hive to be a purely antag group, although it’d be cool to also have options or objectives for antag. I was also brainstorming with torack about what kinds of gear and abilities they would spawn with. I thought each member would spawn with at least one bee egg (with more on the station or something), the hivelord would spawn with a cyanide/royal intripobee pill, maybe a relic of bees or something similar. The other members might have a similar suicide pill. The warlord might spawn with maybe a histamine based weapon or some armour or something. The priest might have a sort of bee bible. The cultists and acolytes might have some random items like honey or bee eggs or even a replica bible. Acolytes might have higher quality items like weapons and drugs, As for abilities I’m not entirely sure and to be honest I don’t want to make coding more difficult than the basic idea already would but some examples might be that the cultist could eat x amount of sugar and spew up honey, the higher roles could obviously control bees and not be attacked by bees blah blah, have immunities to histamines and so on. Torack suggested that for when other antags appear you could get events that reveal them to the hive but the hive is not allowed to alert the station. an example would be "a wizard has appeared in the area, this is a high priority target as he recently eradicated a separate hive, do not inform any non hive members of his presence but deal with him before he finds the hive" or something. Another part of the gimmick was going to be speech patterns that effected all members except for the cultists, where "I" became "we" and "the Swarm" or in some cases "this one" (in reference to self), and all s's became z's and were doubled or tripled (so 'bees' would become 'Beezzz'. A simplified idea could just be a player or group of players spawn with the sugar -> honey mutation with bee based titles/names. Please let me know what you think of my idea and inform me on whether or not you think it will be implemented and if not, possible ways to implement the basic idea in the basic game or even just ways to improve on the idea. I honestly don't have high hopes but Thanks for at least reading this.

Same happened with Owls, they're kinda cute and they're weird enough to seem uniquely SS13-y, so people latch onto 'em.

Yeah I can't see any sort of "cult" varient being accepted on goonstation. Here's why.

1. Idiots have used Cult as an excuse in the past to grief under the pretext of religion.

2. Cult/rev/gang all share the same basic idea of turn the crew against each other, and enable the crew to tide at it's worst. Normally I love going all out on the heads because antag, but I think we can accomplish that with one or two game modes, not 3 or 4. I'd just stick with Rev for the rare adminbus rounds, and the occasional round of gang for the "leave the crew alone but still kill eachother" rounds.

I say if you want the idea to have merit, remove the culty bits, and use ants instead. A space ant infestation controlled by players seems more amusing, and reminds me of that simpsons episode where Homer is an astronaut and accidentally releases ants aboard the shuttle. Ants could also be jerks to botany and chef, in addition to spawning mounds of dirt for some reason. Wraith and Vampire hate Chaplain, and to a lesser extent science and barman. Security is hated by wizards, traitors, and maybe even gangs. Bout time Botany and chef got a rude menace intended to overtake the station. Of course that role might already be taken by blob, who everyone hates.

I don't know if anyone actually likes ants, but they're related to wasps and some of them sting.

Eh I didn't really want it to seem like a culty type deal. I was just using the word cultists as a generic underling title. but ants could be a neat idea.....honestly this was just a five minute 'wouldn't it be cool if this' kinda thing and I didn't have high hopes. idk but if someone wants to share some more ideas about ants or anything I'd love to hear it

Also in general I would totally be cool with a star ship troopers inspired game mode.

Just the concept of giant bugs attacking the station sounds kinda neat to me.

Isn't that basically what alien mode was?

Hating bees is becoming as much of a meme as loving bees. I'm conflicted.

No, screw you guys. I love bees. All cute things actually.

Next you'll be hatin' on funny hats!
