What if instead of just chopping the brain out and bunging it in a robot body, cyborging was a bit more classic Doctor Who Cybermen? Chop up the old squishy human, slowly replacing the old parts with top-quality cyberbits.

Cyborg frame becomes
cyber-skeleton
"A mechanical exoskeleton. Necessary for all cyber-modification."
An exo-suit which can only be put on people who in are in position for surgery and have incisions in the base of their neck, each arm, each leg and their chest. Cannot be removed and is required for all other cyber-augmentations.

Cyborg chest becomes
cyber-torso unit
"An artifical torso unit. As well as being armoured and insulated, this unit can mount one tool module. Cyber-organs will be required."
Natural armour equivalent to an armour vest or possibly the captain's armour. Somewhat protects the organs from the effects of electricity. Only covers upper and lower torso. Butt must have been removed and chest must have been opened with a circular saw to install it. Any non-cyber organs within the chest cavity will fail. Cannot be removed once installed. Back slot becomes a tool module slot.

Cyborg arm becomes
cyber-arm
"An artificial arm that terminates in a specialised socket. Can quickly change between any tool in a tool module."
Same as the cyborg arms we have now, ends in a tool slot for use with tool modules built into the chest.

and

cyber-grasper
"An artificial arm that terminates in an advanced gripper, capable of picking up, putting down and throwing objects."
Can pick up and move around anything that humans can. Cannot use the things it picks up.

The arms strike harder and throw with increased throwforce, and if both arms are cyber, you can break out of handcuffs. If the chest is cyber, arms can be removed easily the same way as cyborg limbs are removed currently.

Cyber-legs would probably remain much as they are now. Possibly the legs could have built-in toggleable magboots whereas treads go faster and can't fall over?

New:
network interface
"This component, inserted directly into a human brain, connects them to the station's network, making them subservient to the AI and its laws."
Open the top of the head with the scalpel, open the skull with the saw, apply the implant. Can't be removed. Gives them the cyborg's control over machines, but also requires them to follow laws. Cyber-networking always takes precedence over a worn or carried ID.

Then of course there'd be things like replacing the top of the head with helmets, grafting on some kind of advanced facemask, cyberears, cybereyes, if you cyber up enough you'd be immune to disease and cold - but you would have to be very heavily cybered...

It always confused me how "cyborgs" were basically 95% robot and 5% human, so implementing this type of system would make things MUCH more interesting for roboticists, in addition to that other thread posted about the customizable tiny robots. Right now, most of what the roboticists do is very uniform and doesn't leave for very much experimentation, so this would be an excellent addition.

And here's a fun idea: What if, instead of making the complete set of robot parts every time you want to make a cyborg, a Roboticist could cut bits and pieces from HUMANS to make half-flesh half-metal cyborg bodies for debrained patients?

I always say yes to adding more stuff for robotics to do.

What if this includes including custom modules with odd items. A LA inspector gadget.

Adding incisions to each body part just to install the skeleton sounds supremely obnoxious given how shitty the limb interface is.

Not really? Equip scalpel, click limb, click person, repeat, it's pretty easy.

Maybe making law bound borgs should involve doing something to the brains you remove other then just putting them in a borg head? Maybe stick an implant on them? Not only would this open up the door for all sorts of other brain implants, you could do things like replace headless bodies with unbound borg heads, or just build robot bodies that are functionally the same as a human. No laws to follow, but also no borg immunities or abilities.

I maintain that there ought to be some kind of pod in Robotics for streamlining all the steps to make a borg on top of the standard manual surgery.

Stick a dude in, the machine makes all the necessary incisions, sawing, and stitching to add or remove limbs and organs as well as attach parts to a borg.

Never. Cutting someone apart and putting the borg together is the whole point and the best part about robotics.

The surgery table and those methods would still be available. The streamlined machine would be just another resource, one that should probably be power intensive like the teleporter so it won't be available unless the engine is running at high capacity.

Gonna be honest here, there's something wrong with the state of the Robotics department if performing "scalpel-saw-scalpel-saw-scalpel-saw" on different bits of a corpse, pushing a few buttons on a fabricator, and throwing it all onto a frame is the most exciting part of the job.

It's -literally- what roboticists do. That or if they are seriously bored, which has to be most of the time honestly, they flood the station with buttbots or other robots, change a powercell or two, cause a ruckus over the radio about free borging, and then commit suicide/go braindead 20 minutes into the round.

Hell, you'll very often see robotics completely deserted at round start because few people want to play as roboticists.

Any changes or additions that give robotics something truly unique and/or fun, I wholeheartedly support.

Thats cause if you take that away there is literally nothing else to do. Instead of removing the only thing robotics can do suggest more stuff for robotics to do. Robotics has been the same thing with no coding changes for as long as I can remember.

I'd like to see a rework on robotics researching take place. I believe back when it was removed, it was planned to bring it back in a similar way to new artlab, but better and unique to robotics. So far, we've stuck with "everything is unlocked".

Give robotics the ability to make RC buttbots. I want to race staff assistants with my custom designed turbo-charged butt.
