This is another suggestion that comes from a subidea of a suggestion I made earlier.
Security would gain a cryobay that it could use to stuff prisoners in.
It'd be a pod, and a console. You would use it by stuffing a handcuffed prisoner into the pod, then registering them with the console with a reason (required), a sentence duration (optional but must pick one or the other or both), or a sentence penance amount in money. (optional, but must pick one or the other or both)
Once successfully done, the prisoner will be sucked away into a hidden cryobay and put into stasis. Their mind is hooked up to prison VR.
They appear in a seedy cantina/lounge with some prisoner garb and a prisoner id card, have their penance amount or duration in their status tab, and have some basic boring objects around to goof with. There's also a door outside, which leads to a virtual mining magnet rig, with a tool vender nearby.
The idea is that they can either goof around and wait out their time, or they can go out to the virtual rig and mine.
Except they're not mining ore; They're mining crypto currency.
-They'd drag in a new hash, and then go to town on the virtual asteroid, digging out various forms of crypto currency and various goodies.
-They can redeem the crypto currency into a vendor in the cantina for points, which they can spend on buying need things to toy around with or put it towards their penance amount.
- Security can redeem this cryptocurrency by selling it on the stock market for cash money.
- When a prisoner's time or penance amount is up (whichever is first), they can push a button to be returned to their body and ejected (sans handcuffs) out of security.
- If a prisoner dies in VR, they get returned to the prison VR spawn.
- Sometimes, glitches due to overheating and shortcuts in processing spawn, and try to eat the prisoners. The prisoners must defeat them in martial combat.
- Security and HOS get a pair of goggles that let them visit the prison VR. They spawn in as admins with non-disarmable stun weapons, and can dispense justice/use prisoners as punching bags at their leisure.
- Security access individuals can use the terminal to see a list of prisoners, and eject them at will. (handcuffed)
- Freedom implant would gain an upgrade, giving implanted individuals a set of secret hacking tools when in prison VR, that can help them subterfuge and escape in various ways.
- Emagging the console would not only remove the id requirement, but would also remove VR safeties. You die in the game, you die in real life.
