The New Goonstation Wiki
Is there any interest in creating a generic item template?

I was thinking something like this:

Code:
Template:Item/Beaker

{{item
|name=beaker
|plural=beakers
|link=Medical Objects#Beaker
|icon=Beaker.png
}}

...which could then be inserted into pages, e.g. "You can dispense chemicals into an empty [Image: Beaker.png] beaker".

There are a few things I haven't considered with this approach (capitalization at the start of a sentence, plurals, etc) but at least some of them could be solved with MediaWiki template ifs or arguments (e.g. {{item/beaker|useplural}}).

It might make it easier to standardize shit, and god forbid the name of any object change it can be updated pretty easily everywhere by just changing the template/making a redirect.

Only issue is it'd be a lot of work and probably require a lot of image editing (most of the images on the wiki have empty space around them) ...

Don't know how useful that would be. It might work for some step-by-step instructions, but I don't think it would improve the readability of most descriptions. And like you said, there are a lot of items and pictures that would have to be edited.

I kinda think that instead of maybe a complete mechanics guide, maybe there could just be a thread in the forums with people's designs and how stuff works.

The best I can usually do is try to build a teleporter, only to forget how they work and then try and figure out why my teleporter keeps bouncing me back and forth only to realize that I only need to connect one teleporter to the button.

Have a gander through and suggest a few ideas if I have missed out on anything or if the idea is a pile of shit or whatever.

I dunno if this is a secret but if no one has an issue with it you could add safe cracking.

It's kinda fun to do, but actually making a guide means probably going back to telescience/abandoned shuttle or borrowing the detective's safe and then trying to crack it. Mostly because I think I remember how but I haven't done it in a while.

The most reliable way to make money I've found is to mass produce chimps on the Derelict Station at the faint signal, and sell all their limbs to D.O.C. Easiest to do as a mechanic.

Mugging. If you have the right equipment (all of which is accessible to graysuited scum like you) you can do it without hurting anyone. Won't make you a lot of money but you'll still be able to buy something from the merchant shuttle now and then (unless you get beaten to death first.) Heads of staff have the most cash but also carry flashes (which you can use against them if you're smart about it.)

Its good to note that if you start as a miner there is still 2 industrial pods around. One starts in the QM hanger, the other is at old mining (Any miner has access to it) And the old mining hanger still has all the upgrades for them (Rock drilling rigs, plasma cutters, and enhanced mining sensors that act as pod mesons) You can also find 3 large ore satchels and a laser RIGHT outside of the tech outpost (Just south of the diner, part of the old mining complex.) Right here http://www.goonhub.com/maps/cogmap#l=150,210,3;z=1.1

Which is a GREAT early start for any miner.

Getting Started Supplementary video?

Yes/No?

Personally I think it's kind of corny but hilarious, but maybe it's not the best choice for "this is the first video you see when you visit the goonstation wiki"

Just updated the security officer page to include the new antagonists. Shifted things about, added a few notes here and there.

The main page and a bunch of other pages don't load at all for me (like pictured), others load perfectly fine. The wiki worked perfectly fine for me a week ago.

Yeah, pages aren't showing up at all.

They haven't been deleted though.

We'll try to get this fixed ASAP.
