Brain assemblies ~ Sentient bombs and much more.
#1
To begin with, this idea is a companion idea to the robotics brain constructions thread: http://forum.ss13.co/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3425

Brains should able to be used in assembly recipes, maybe with the addition of a robotics-made cybernetic interface attachment that turns the brain into the sort cyborgs have.

You could have many, many things...

Bike horns would enable brains to honk.
Bike horn + circuit board would enable proper speech
Handheld radios would enable radio use.

Interfaced Brain + Igniter = a player controlled brain that can only spark.
Interfaced Brain + igniter + bikehorn/circuitboard + radio + tank transfer valve bomb = player controlled talking bomb.
Like so ~

There would be many possibilities. And even more with this thread:http://forum.ss13.co/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3425

Brains should also be able used to proof read

I think a bomb brain should be a brain jar being held hostage by a bomb. rather then a brain able to blow itself up.

Most people would prefer not blowing themselves up, but the idea of being brought back to life, only to realize you're strapped to a bomb that's hooked to a timer? more fun sounding.

say ; "Oh god help I'm a brain jar connected to a bomb and I dunno if it's not a dud please disarm"

Stakes are way higher if you have a hostage that can't escape the blast.

Official Sounding Announcement: Yes I hooked the captain's brain up to a bomb, if he does not get disarmed he dies and so does half the station. Good Luck

As the brainvat idea patent holder, *cough, I like these ideas so here's my input:

I agree with atomicfire, and it's not such a stretch to put a brainvat beside a bomb. It would be no different code wise than what I suggested, just make a brainvat and place him in a bomb rigged room. Most players would stick around and scream audibly as they see the timer tick down, rather than straight up suicide. Knowing that your actively still in the game and have a chance of revival and being on the edge of being completely eradicated with no chance of revival is an entertaining concept.

I don't think you need to complicate the brainvat idea too much though. I dont think adding a circuit board to the brainvat so it can talk is a good idea. Brainvat should be a simple enough recipe of brain+vat+glass, and then activate in hand. The reason I would like it simple as it's meant to be a ad hoc quick revival so it can see and talk.
However, having more attachments is a welcome concept.
Making a brainbot is one assembly that I suggested, which would literally attach an arm and a thread and away ye go.
There's plenty more things you could attach a brain to, another thing I suggested was CRITTERS Heh.

Yeah the idea was supposed to be a more low level version that assistants could easily hook together using a found brain and some vending machine components . These could be easily dismantled.
My idea is giving objects more intelligence.
Yours is giving intelligence more objects. I just thought they'd work well together.

I think there should always be the option of a brainvat bomb self detonating. It would make a traitor think twice before constructing such a thing. Maybe they would need to mindslave/emag it?
My point is, when some people play as a job they like to act somewhat as that job entails. IE fix stuff as engie. Others just go around doing whatever they want to.
Well if you were brought back as a bomb would you consider it your job to explode or that you were actually being held captive? I think these brainvats are going to turn out pretty crazy!

I made a proof of concept, using existing sprites.

Probably looks terribad but it's a start.

Once a brain is attached to a canister it can't be retrieved and is allowed to blow up at any time it's want, this way the canister has a reason to blow shit up instead of begging to be retrieved

I want to see a canister demand people worship it and bring it sacerfices or it blow up the station or a canister destroy it's father in a bloody act of revenge

Also adding a brain to other stuff would also be awesome

Attach a brain to a clown car for a sassy-car sidekick

Brain to a toaster who a toaster who just wants to serve toast

Attach a brain to a human to have two people controlling the same body

The possibilitys are endless! Sundance i am sorry i called you brain in the jar idea stupid, this thread helped me see the light and i am better person now

Telesci could ruin your fun

If you anchor a canister bomb to the ground telesci can do nothing to it.

I don't know about you but I'd rather have my brain hooked up to a mulebot.

On second thought, why not just make sentient bombs a wraith thing?

Sentient drones (little robots, not the space ones), pods, artifacts, etc.

Rules-wise a sentient bomb would have to work as a mindslave to whoever makes one.

This way you're responsible for what your sentient bomb does, and it's only responsible for following your directives.

rules-wise a sentient bomb should be able to explode whereever and whenever it wants to

but you should only be allowed to make one if you're a traitor or otherwise have a legitimate use for one(if you can think of a legitimate use for a sentient bomb). Or maybe you should be able to build the bomb and have it be sentient and able to talk but not able to detonate itself until you arm it?

I don't know, but you should definitely be able to detonate at will with no rules as a sentient bomb, because otherwise it's the most boring thing in the universe.

Well, of course. Hence why you're responsible for everything it does.

It'd be insanely dumb to yell at a bomb for exploding!
