Online SS13 DnD 2: Syndie RPG
#1
Introduction
Hi it's me, FishDance. Some may know me as Dr. Fisk or Fish or whatever, I really don't mind, and it's really not important. The fact of the matter is, I'd like to try my hand at running yet another Goonstation Themed RPG. The last two times around were extremely fun, and I think that with what I've learned I should be able to do pretty well at this.

What am I planning?
Thanks for asking, bolded text. I've gone and created an EXTREMELY simplistic RPG system based almost entirely on the XCom: Long War system. It's pretty easy to get into, and pretty self explanatory, so learning it shouldn't be too difficult, and even if it is, I'm ready to help. What this means is that I want to host a campaign that focuses a lot on combat and tactical play, rather than the overpowered vibes from the last couple campaigns.

Is this exclusive?
Not at all, bolded text. This was, in part, created so that all the people who wanted to participate in the original campaign but couldn't due to scheduling issues could have another chance to play. There is no knowledge restriction, whether you've played in no campaigns at all, or billions before now, everyone is welcome. Hell, even if we're already in a campaign together you can feel free to join in on this one since it'll be at a different time.

How are we going to play this?
I've become extremely knowledgeable in the intricacies of how to set up campaigns on Roll20.net, a site that specializes in online RPGs. This is almost certainly the site we're going to be using. If anyone ahs any issues or something with this, let me know!

I wanna read the rules.
Not really a question this time, bolded text. You're not really following the pattern this time. Anyhow, I've published my
Breaking News Developing... TOTALLY NOT STRUCTURED Breaking News Developing...
ruleset on googledocs so that everyone can access it and have a read. It may be a bit hard to follow because Im not very good at structuring, but maybe that will be fixed in the future (probably not) https://docs.google.com/document/d/1A0j ... sp=sharing

Who will be playing?
See, and now you're back with the questions again, bolded text. Anyhow, I have no idea! If you're interested in this project at all, please drop a message in the thread stating your availability throughout the week, your timezone, and any questions, comments, or concerns you have about the campaign. And also post your TIMEZONE.

Questions:

Do burst weapons roll damage once or roll a set of damage?

Will we be getting psy abilities?

Does equipment like grenades and medkits restock automatically after a mission?

Is ammo infinite besides the need to reload?

All very good questions that I probably should have explained beforehand. Burst weapons roll damage once, but have high clips so they're able to suppress more frequently without having to reload. Psy abilities are on hold for now until I see how comfortable people are with the mechanics, but that's not to say they wont show up later. All your gear is restocked after missions, and as for reloads with weapons, unless otherwise stated, you've got infinite ammo so long as you reload your clip every so often.

Valterak Wrote:Hi my name is Valterak and I would also like to be part of this group. Fish is probably one of the coolest people ever so I lavish any chance to hang out with him because he's so cool. That and I have too much free time. I may be dumb, and I may be stupid, but I think I would make a good addition to the team. My name is Valterak. I really said this. For reals. Also, bring back poo.
This is what Valt told me to post onto here word for word, supposedly he can't get onto his forum account or something.

plot twist, Valterak fixes it ten minutes later and forgets to tell anyone while Fishdance continues to be a big nerd.

So I still gotta take a look at the Google Doc after work, but hey, might as well shoot for this.

I'm usually available on the weekends (including Friday nights), but here's the Shyamalan twist: my timezone is JST.

Anyways, I'll take a closer look at the Google Doc when I can. Worst comes to worst I'm still more than happy to read about everyone else's antics! If I can figure out anything particularly doable, though, I will try to make it happen. Spehss D&D sounds pretty rad.

I've always wanted to try DnD, and I love reading people's stories of them playing.
Problem is I have literally no idea how to make a character and how to play and all that jazz.
Is there any way I could learn?

I'm not the GM, but I feel obligated to explain this:

This definitely ISN'T going to be exactly like the previous two campaigns. The rules and such from those ones have been swapped out for XCom rules.

Not to say that it won't be interesting, but still.

What Steve said. There's definitely a lot more combat focus, but that's not to say that there wont be time for character development, it just means that there wont be set stats for stuff like charisma and whatnot. That being said, if you need help with anything at all just let me know.

Breaking News Developing... Important Time Thing
It's looking like we're going to schedule this sometime during the weekend, is there anyone who CANT do that?

Managed to take a look at the doc last night. So when you say no Charisma, do you mean that checks like that will be pure roleplay, or that most situations won't call for the Charisma approach? Still sounds fun, but I was a little curious!

I'd probably go with saying that they'd go with pure roleplay. As I said Im trying something new out and I've never tried a system like this before, so I've not got everything Ironed out yet meself!
