Rainbow afros don't seem to have the rainbow effect

Rainbow afros don't seem to have the rainbow effect

After sticking a volunteer through the port-a-gene and giving him rainbow hair plus a kicking rad wizard bears as a consolation prize for not having any worthwhile genes, I noticed that the rainbow effect didn't seem to activate, though his hairstyle did change. Did this break with the appearance rework?

If it wasn't working it must've been a recent change that caused the issue, as I remember about 2-3 days ago having a rainbow afro given to me through port-a-gen magic.

Apparently ISN changed the cosmetic choice backend on the 14th, and updated it again on the 16th. Maybe that's what changed?
