A Reason for Magical Ores: Science Vs. Magic
#1
So far, the only super compelling reason for Koshamarite to exist, and for clarentine to be magical, is for wizards and vampires to make power armor to improve their spellcasting.

Let's fix that!

I think magical materials should interfere with electronics on their square.

aka, if you are wearing a koshabrith jumpsuit, implants don't function inside you if someone tries to implant you. On the downside, tasers and lasers and scanners malfunction as well. Perhaps it also makes you more resistant to being hit with powered items like csabers, tasers at point blank, and chainsaws?

Putting a koshamarite tile under a chemmaster would make it spit out the wrong reagents instead of the one you clicked on.

Of course, this doesn't have to be the EXACT implementation, and I'm open to more ideas, so please post suggestions here.

Would they still just be reagents from the normal dispenser, or would it be chosen at random?

I dunno, either i guess, depending on which is better in the long run? I intended for it to just be the same reagents as from the dispenser

It should probably choose randomly from a list like the ???? pills and hobo wine.

Oh hey lets give everyone an easy way to try an infinite number of times to get really dangerous/hard to make drugs!

I didn't mean that it should USE those lists. I just meant that it should work like them.

I dunno why clarentine (a high energy conductor) and koshmarite (flesh-like ore) is considered magical and it slightly irks me. Gems like miracle matter, uqill and telecrystals seem to fall into the "magical" side of things alot more than the former. Koshmarite (and Viscrite) should have unique special flesh-like properties rather than just falling into the "oh, something gotta be magical, lets use that"

IMO the "magic" wizards use is actually just sophisticated technology made to look archaic and their whole "technophobia" is rather based around considering anything nanotrasen to be vastly inferior technology-wise. The term "magic" back in yonder days was normally used to express something that people don't quite understand, like Alchemy back in medieval times was actually just a proto-chemistry/medicine.

That said I don't think "magical" ores should be used to cripple the surrounding technology, I think it should be far more randomized than that. It should do "magic" stuff to technology, random very unpredictable effects.

Actually, viscerite is the only flesh like stone. Koshmarite is the purple stone that pulses in an unnerving way, so I think it's supposed to be the stone that the eldritch artifacts are made from.

To each it's own dork. Magic as a whole is open to interpretation.

That would make alot more sense, ta. Still though that's eldritch stuff, rather than actually falling into the bracket of being "wizardly" like miracle matter and stuff.

I stand by what I say, I think that "magical" stuff should be have a much more random interaction to technology and stuff rather than just negating it.

You mean like having a very rare chance to make it better, worst, act like a emag, ect ect.

The way I see it, it would spit out random base chems, some intermediate ones (for instance, ammonia, or sulphiric acid.) and possibly some really bad mixes (like a combo of potassium and water)
That way, it would be easier to have accidental chemical reactions.

Oh no, instead of giving you some water for some obscure recipe, it made azide instead! OOPS.

Also, yeah I like this idea a lot.

Still think we should consider something like this

You might be able to sabotage computers and terminals with koshamarite, causing them to do weird things at random every now and then, such as the bank records shuffling wages, security records getting corrupted, communication consoles randomly calling/recalling the shuttle, etc. This would require you to take out the offending ore piece from the computer terminal.

But here's a fun and incredibly dangerous idea:

Koshamarite power cells.

Due to being infused with energy far ahead of the station tech's capabilities, this rapidly increases productivity and energy capacity at the cost of randomly-influcted malfunctions, such as APCs shooting lightning, cyborgs having momentary flip-outs, flash/cell assemblies randomly detonating, and so on and so forth.
