anyone should be allowed to use the teleporter and fighting an AI every time you want to sucks
if that allows too much free access, in return specific teleporter beacons could have to be ID swiped by the department they are in to allow any random dude inside, so you can't just warp straight into chemistry or w/e
most beacons would be free access I figure though

do people really still care about and arrest people for breaking into the teleporter room? wouldn't this just restrict people who formerly would have taken the time to break in from getting the full benefit?

The teleporter at the space diner is freely accessible to anyone with a pod or mining access, isn't it?

I think you're getting confused with the space prison, and no you need sec access and you have to build it.

The Space Prison no longer exists and there is a teleporter in the Space Diner. Anyone can use that.
So no the station teleporter doesn't need to be free access.

the space diner that coincidentally requires you to use a teleporter unless you want to waste a pod

Waste a pod? Eh. No one teleports to the Diner, everyone takes a pod there. It's like a 10 second journey.

You can probably just walk there from Mining in a firesuit.

If it kept a log of who teleported where and you had to scan your card to see where is available for you to teleport(assistants only get to go to lobbies and hallways etc.), I'd be for it.

I 'accidentally' leave the teleporter bolted open sometimes on slow (boring) rounds to up the ante a bit if I'm a borg. It's nearly worthless because of the access level required to use it, and it's out of the way; even if it's been bolted open all round it'll usually get used once, maybe twice.
I'm all for opening it up more, in other words.

I think it'd be neat if there were a crate of beacons in the teleporter room, and none spawn in any high access areas. If you want to be able to teleport into the Bridge you'd need to toss a beacon in there first. This way, the teleporter can be all access, and encourage people to get creative with beacon placement. Perhaps make it so if you click on a beacon in your active hand you can name it, so when an assistant wanders in and sees a teleport location called 'Money Vault' they will happily go there and find themselves stuck in the locked bathroom filled with plasma

Plus, you could put them in mail chutes!

You can already move around beacons and therefore do that. It would either teleport you on the outside of the mail chute or not work at all though, never really tested that.

But the bridge beacon is how I get in there unnoticed. I love hacking the teleporter and the beaming into the bridge to hack into the captain's room. It's a quick way to get the spare.

i think it'd be neat if telecrime was left alone because it's great and there's no real need for a change
