Synopsis: At the beginning of the round, Arkire started making several comments like "Straights are the reason for all of our problems" and whatnot. When the round started, I adminhelped, asking somebody to talk to him about it. I feel like, even though it isn't him bashing a minority, it's still bigotry by definition. The response I got from BlackrayJack was "I think he's being ironic/sarcastic". When I pointed out that the "It's just irony/sarcasm" excuse doesn't work in any other case, and that saying it's okay to use it when talking about one group of people is bigoted in and of itself, he just repeated that "It's just irony" and bubs joined in, telling me to go fuck myself. I feel like that was really poorly handled, and I do seriously feel like bigotry in any form isn't okay, and it shouldn't be okay to just wave it off as ironic or sarcasm.

I can see where Phoenix is coming from. The rules are pretty solid and clear about ironic bigotry. I wouldn't say I could be offended by what Arki said, but there are still going to be people who it breeds similar hate as homophobia with.

At the very least it's going to goad people into insulting homosexuals. And then what do we do? Ban one, but not the other?

I can see where Phoenix is coming from. The rules are pretty solid and clear about ironic bigotry. I wouldn't say I could be offended by what Arki said, but there are still going to be people who it breeds similar hate as homophobia with.

The point was made to me in the irc that it's hard to be bigoted if it's impossible to take offense. And I kind of agree, honestly. I see where your complaint is coming from, I don't think you should be called stupid or told to fuck off for it, since my snap reaction was similar. But, like I said originally, I can't be made offended for being called straight.

Firstly, Louis CK is the same guy who people use as an argument for why they should be allowed to say "Faggot" with the excuse that they didn't mean it that way. In fact, here's the link to that bit of his: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fcja4WFFzDw (You'll find this was actually used by somebody who I believe is still banned's appeal because they were trying to argue that that's not what they meant.

Secondly, you can't just say "Well being bigoted ironically toward this one group is okay because it's not actually being bigoted". The definition doesn't include the idea that bigotry isn't actually bigotry if it's targeted at somebody who is the majority. That's like saying it Apartheid wasn't racist because there were more black people in Africa than whites, so they were the majority. That's not how it works.

heterophobia isn't real, straight people are not subject to violence and social isolation for their sexual preference, institutional or otherwise, and being 'upset' that someone made some comments they don't even really mean doesn't affect you at all, but the same is not true for people with other sexual preferences, where if we were to tolerate homophobic comments then gay people would feel really unwelcome, really fast. the same goes for white racism, male sexism, and 'cisphobia'.

I will profit of this situation to ask you all why you are using the word "ironic" to describe such behavior while it's only sarcastic at best and totally idiotic in most cases. I mean it has nothing to do with irony, I am genuinely asking myself why this word is used at all.

I am also asking myself why the heck this arkire guy wouldn't be punished, while you decided to bash blackphoenix for reporting such an obvious breach of the rules; many people have been banned in the past for behaving like arkire, often very swiftly and very harshly, what the hell come on he wasn't even funny
