Requesting your MIDI Songs & Player Piano Comps
#1
Music
Calling all musical instrument enjoyers from the station.

I am sprucing up the wiki when it comes to Player Piano / Text2Music Component compositions. I have found a much more efficient way to compose some of the songs currently on the wiki, and also transcribed some of my own. I am looking for more MIDI files that "Midikey2Key" players are using (or MIDIs you would like replicated in game).

My first goal is compounding a bunch of the current songs on the Piano Song Dump wiki into more efficient compositions. For example Facsimile's original Megalovania utilizes 5 player pianos, but my composition uses a single instrument without losing fidelity.

I am looking for more "simple" MIDI files to add to the wiki, broadening the music choice available to players.

THEN the more ambitious step is compositing songs that have chords! I haven't seen it utilized, but the note composition allows for multi-notes concurrently that from what I understand Midikey2Key can't do. This allows music like Porter Robinson's Goodbye to a World to be recreated in SS13 (WIP, this thing is a beast but my composition is almost complete on just 2 Text2Music components, 4 for the full song).

Additionally with Text2Music Component you can create multi-instrument songs, like this one for example Spooky Scary Skeletons (snip of it playing)

Things to keep in mind when using MIDI files
 • Simple songs with a single instrument (and single note duration) are simple to convert and reproducible on 1 instrument.
 • Long sustains aren't possible with goonstation sound files (no note longer than 0.5 seconds)
 • Timing limits mean very short notes aren't possible if the tempo is moderate (at 150BPM nothing shorter than an quarter note is possible). Chopin's Nocturne (Op. 9, No. 2) could be played but to capture 1/8th notes would need to be slowed to 75 BPM
 • No music with percussion (not in goonstation code at the moment)
 • No music with reliance on bow instruments (only fiddle and it has a tight note range A3 to G6)

Beyond that, please share your music and let's build out a sound library that is simpler to utilize and spreads more music on the station.
