[MERGED PR] Wraith salt rework
#1
Thumbs Up
PULL REQUEST DETAILS

About the PR
Salt no longer reveals wraiths, it instead blocks them and can be passed by shoving against it repeatedly in exchange for 15 health. Shoving into the salt visibly moves it.
Salt now blocks wraith abilities based on line of sight. Salt that blocks a wraith ability will hiss and glow black for a second.
Why's this needed?
The polarizing nature of salt is widely hated, wraiths dying instantly because they accidentally glided over a table with a salt pile under it never feels good. This PR is an attempt to fix that without increasing wraith's overall power/threat level.
Now you can draw circles of salt around areas to make them actually immune to wraith effects, or try to trap the wraith in an enclosed region, forcing them to take health damage to escape.

I really really love this idea. I feel like it makes defense against a wraith a lot easier to escalate? Since laying salt is normally just done so you can beat the wraiths head in and kill it, but this would make it a defensive thing instead. It also means salt could be used together with a spirit candle to trap the wraith into an area and then to make it materialize.

One thing I am interested about is how it would function with layered lines of salt, or even as an example what would happen if medical just filled every spare space with a salt pile or something. Still I like it, and think it would be a very positive change

Ok, i love this change. This fits lore wise (salt keeps bad spirits out) and allows to create safe zones against wraiths.

I really like this change, is much more fitting from both a lore and gameplay perspective

Given how trivially easy it is to salt everything, I expect this will just result in wraiths not being able to do anything whatsoever.

Yes, good. No notes.

I really like the idea of being safe inside a salt circle but won't line of sight just mean if there is any salt the wraith can't do anything? My understanding is that this would just be either way too strong a tool against a wraith if wraith abilities only clear single salt piles or just not much of a change if a wraith can just delete all the salt on screen by spending some points.

good changes, though the line of sight ability blocking is very strong and will likely need to go through balancing adjustments (no specific example provided since there's a number of ways you could go about it)

I'm hoping the line of sight blocking won't be tooo too strong because wraiths have the advantage of being able to approach from all angles and there's always going to be people moving around, leaving the circles, scuffing them etc. The salt also has no effect on wraith summons, animated objects etc who can easily walk/float in and cause chaos.
Definitely open to rebalancing it if it turns out to be too annoying though.
