Hi, I want to comment on how lore operates in game, in particular, the relationship between lore and spoilers. I have briefly talked to two admins to get a more wholistic view of the subject.
So right now, I think the lore on the wiki is limited and abstracted. New player's introduction to lore would likely be the Basic lore page, which is included in the Getting Started guide and the Game FAQ. This page is very brief and more a primer for how players should act. It also doesn't link to or is linked by the Lore Hub, which isn't present unless searched for with the search bar. Delving into the Lore Hub, it has great stuff; the lore for the Corporations and Locations are great. However, a glaring fact is, aside from the lore hub not being accessible except from the search bar, there is no accessible storyline to follow. In the storyline page, it itself says it's been supplanted by adventure zone stuff, and that's the other thing I want to cover.
Now, General rules 9 and Discord rules on Secret content describe adventure zone stuff as secret and restricted in discussions. In fact, the lore channel on Discord is only accessible via the imspoilered role. So in concept, it seems that most of the lore is treated as secrets and restricted from discussion. Now in practice, in my brief discussion with admins, one of the responses said that it wasn't a big deal and to just use discretion based on the nature of the lore. The other response I got described how secrets can only be shared with other characters who are discovering the azones together. Now I don't think the responses I got were mutually exclusive, my interpretation right now is that there likely is lore that's perfectly fine to bring up casually, and the more secretive content can be discussed with people your discovering secrets with. However, I do think how everything is presented has made lore a minefield, which has discouraged discussion of lore. In every round I've played, players don't bring up locations or history or factions, which I think could be really cool for roleplay.
To be clear, I'm not bashing how lore is set up altogether, I think this is a unique way of doing things. I do know that GoonRP is more lax and more LRP than other servers. But an RP server without any visible lore or worldbuilding ingame would be strange no? I just think it could be better for the lore enthusiasts. On the radio show host page, one of the gimmicks it suggests is a history themed show that discusses lore around solarium. I think that's a great gimmick but working that with the rules on secrets could be tricky and discouraging. One of my favorite examples is the Lunar Museum, stuff from there is literally history and presumably common knowledge, I think it would be great if people brought it up more. To be honest, I think I just want more family guy style references to lore, like, "Damn Cap, this is worse than the time Nanotrasen destroyed Asia in a meteor shower." Just like some way to encourage and allow that sort of discussion. I'm sure I'm out of my depth on this topic, I'm just offering my experience like an outsider looking in. I do want to hear what you all think as well.
