Forensic Lab - Crime Computer
#1
Sort of tying those ideas of Security Assistants being able to slot into the role of Dispatcher or acting as support to the Detective, how about some kind of computer that keeps records of things scanned by the forensic scanners? Maybe be able to upload other evidence like photographs etc

The idea here is Officers or the Detective out in the field might collect evidence, but not have to focus on processing it right away.
Current flow can be something like, scanning a door for prints, looking them up, then scanning an item, looking them up, then scanning blood, and looking that up, etc
Instead, it might flow where each thing is scanned and either is automatically uploaded to the Crime Computer records, or can be uploaded from the device once you return to it.
This allows someone staying back at station to do the analytic work while keeping the Security Officer/Detective free to focus on collection or other tasks. Sticking this computer near a dispatch station then lets them also report back findings to people in the field

There's some precedence for machinery like this with engineering device scanners.
We could consolidate stuff like the poster printer into this, maybe build it within the Secmate program since that's heavily tied to records

I think a mailgroup would be enough for this, photographs are used so rarely that I don't think they need to be sent like this.

so like a forensic database?

I can get behind an idea like that, like being able to feed in forensic reports to write notes on them or link them together in a printable format could be nicee and would be helpful for arranging evidence in court. (and if you could tweak forms and change things if you were EVIL)

I also wish we could just get MORE print outs, like health scan print outs and such so you dont need to lug a corpse to the courtroom as evidence, or reagent scanners being able to print reports. But that is kind of a separate thing.

Not the 1st time this is suggested. Still am for it.

Computers are cool, but a Shadows of Doubt-style cork board would go extremely hard. I think people at best begrudgingly tolerate the current TermOS apps, and if this thing will have a completely unique UI - might as well style it!
Letting people actually organize forensic evidence in a manner that's easily accessible for the whole team is cool, and antags that sneak in could get a peek into the collective hivemind.

This idea sounds very cool, maybe you can make folder and name them to sort the stuff and that could be part of the job of the dispatcher, and maybe you can add notes to stuff

I'm a big fan of this idea, maybe the forensic scanner can have an additional option next to "print" saying "upload" that uploads a print to the data base. Forensics isn't always in focus, but when it is i often find myself overwhelmed with too many prints and readouts to juggle. I think it would also just be thematically cool.

Suggest to have function for tracking everyone in map like AI do as well.
