Merge the APC pinpointer into the atmospheric scanner.

Would be super helpful and cool.

might actually make the atmospheric scanner worth bringing around.. i always throw it out of my toolbelt when shoving a toolbox in there

I think the device analyser and the atmospheric one should be merged into one item.
Kind of like the doctor's health scanner. Basic item with upgrades that can by cycled by pressing C by default.
Instead of organ damage/reagents it be atmospheric scanner/device analyser/apc pinpointer.

the atmospheric scanner is usefull for more jobs than the apc pinpointer. And with the second one being quite powerfull, im not sure if its a good idea to give that out to so many people.

It just points you to apcs. I don't consider knowledge checks to be "powerful" or good reasons to not add quality of life

Agreed, "knowledge checks" for... finding APCs is ridiculous. I'd love this.

Yeah this just makes sense, If scientists being able to find apcs is something that people find strange you can just give engineers some module they can put into the atmos scanner that allows them to find apcs

So when do we get secret chems revealed? I JOKE , I JOKE!

I like to discuss this functionality futher.
1: "HOW" will it work? Does the APC have to be online? Can it be turned off? Can it be found if it was blown up and thus replaced? Does it show the APC zones?
2: "WHY" does it find the APC? Cause let's be real...Atomsphere scanner =/= Finding power sources.
3: Could it be a seperate App or added to a different App?
4: Is there a tool that does it sorta the same? I do remember something that assigns places with APCs.. but I forgot what it was... will it not override that?

These are things we need to know 1st insted of saying: "Why not?"
I think that's our next part of talk before we think about adding it as this is not an "easy add"

I am 200% fine with everyone being able to find this stuff easily, but I do not know the "Why" and "How" yet.
This is why I am adding these questions. I want to make it work!

Yeah there's an APC pinpointer in Engineer lockers that already does this

Ah so it is called that. So you want to take that and put it in the app or make it an app sure.

I think it feels kind of weird to mix two different tools in one, but it might just be me. Also the APC pinpointer could actually be a bit more common, maybe by putting a couple of them in EVA or some tool storages

I like the idea of it being able to be upgraded like a doctors health scanner, I always feel like I have TOO much stuff in my bag as an engineer. I think having the Atmos scanner, APC pinpointer and device analyzer be together would be nice, could get the upgrades out of one of the random tech vendors (I forget what it's called? The one with the signalers) and being able to use it like a health scanner to swap modes would be really nice.

I do get this, but bear in mind a few do already exist and I think get a good pass mentally because it feels right: Meson goggles with mechcomp tracking integrated, PDAs a veritable toolboxes in their own right, the T-Ray scanner, the upgraded medical scanner so on.

I'll be honest I actually think that we could significantly improve the APC hunting game by giving APCs an aggressive blinking bar or light for when the power's off that's visually distinct: maybe an unusual colour for the game. This works too of course, but I always feel pinpointers for static items (especially ones you can't hide) is more an indication that the thing you're finding is just not visually distinct enough.

But this also works just fine.

we could move the APC lights so they glow brightly in the dark like air monitor lights do

This sounds spot on, at least to me. But I appreciate it's a bit different than the original proposition. They could happen together I suppose, but I wanted to say this doesn't sound like a bad change in general.
