Late to work. The Trait/Spacebux purchase
#1
My idea for this is that a user could select the "Late for work" trait/spacebux purchase (im unsure what area it will go in for now) and they would start in one of 3 ways, regular spawn location (not a big fan), Inside the arrival shuttle (personal pick for the trait) or inside of a "catch up" pod (personal pick for the spacebux purchase)

What it would do aside from change spawn location is make you be "missing" (forgot to take) about 10-20% of the items you would normally take for your job

Now for probably the bad idea part of the post, what if skeletons would sometimes forget to bring 1/2 of their limbs to work because they where in such a rush

My reason for wanting this trait is because it seems like there might be some good roleplay opportunities with you missing some of your equipment if executed correctly

I'm kind of in the "Why not" category but personally not enthused. But also "Why not"

In the less enthused column:
- It's another trait people will pick, get upset it took something from them they then can't get replaced. You can either meter this by making sure it's not taking anything that disrupts the round to be without, but then it's a little more toothless. So honestly, I'm not that worried by this if you pick it you pick it.
- If it's a -1 trait: This gets amplified by people who want to gamble with the extra point but can't tolerate the consequences of getting unlucky. Mildly mutated is a classic problem here. However, we still HAVE mildly mutated and generally speaking again: Its on you for taking the trait, it's not up to the round to turn around your bad luck if there's not the people or resources to do so. But it's something to keep in mind in the balance.
- Most items are a non-issue to replace, which could be good or bad but sort of does take some of the edge off the idea when its basically a mild to trivial cost.
- Skeletons are a good one, what could we do potentially for everyone else? If we can't think of anything, it feels like the idea is more something -specific to skeletons, but maybe there's some fun ideas here. I'm vaguely thinking of lizards missing their tails or humans missing their hair and roaches their plucky attitude but there's problems with those. You could also theoretically apply it to anyone with cyborg limbs (borgs and arm pickers) but that -probably- adds some complexity to the coding behind it. I honestly don't know how tricky that'd be though, it might be simple!

Pro:
-It potentially gives some work to robotics. That's always a good thing. However this is caveated by giving the work to them most of the time right at the start of the shift, where they're usually the busiest anyway. Still, it's a thing.
-If we include things like uniform, PDAs and IDs it also gives the HoP work. Same slight pacing issues as above with it being loaded at the start of the shift. For both of these it only works well if there IS a HoP or roboticist.
-Like I said before most stuff is trivial to replace, so for the most part it's not going to be horrendously disruptive. Maybe some minor work for cargo buying replacements? That might be nice.
-RP opportunities are always great, this is the strongest part of the idea for me personally and should always be considered.
-Lots of traits/bux purchases already exist that either carry an inherent risk or impose a challenge. They haven't ended the world and sometimes they produce fun opportunities too.

I don't think making them spawn on the arrival shuttle would be a problem, and it makes sense given the trait/bux purchase nature. It's a standard landmark. Something like the missile already exists so an "express bus" version doesn't seem out of the question either.

Honestly, I feel like this might be one of those times you almost don't -need- a mechanical method to create the roleplay. You could spawn with a missing arm as is using character setup. There's a bux purchase that leaves you entirely limbless. You could if you wanted to create the opportunity of roleplay bin some equipment and achieve the same effect if you want an excuse to go talk to someone who can issue more equipment and that gives you a bit more control so you're not hoping it doesn't get rid of something you need, or being disappointed when it doesn't take much at all. It does however take away the spontaneity of it. #

So I kind of get stuck back with "Yeah why not". Maybe I'm not quite getting the idea, but it also doesn't seem to be doing anything we don't already do and if it helps expand RP opportunities for people then that's always good.

Maybe start with a piece of toast in your mouth and a briefcase filled with start items.
