The diner houses dangerous bee criminals and should be bombed twice!
Anyway, I think the diner is used often because the real walls and floors give you a better idea on how strong the explosion is than VR does while being easily reachable. I personally use the arcade area of the diner to be less of a nuisance and shout out what I'm going to do, but I understand that if you have plans for using it and see it vaporized you are going to be annoyed.

more toxins labs having bomb test ranges along the lines of donut 2&3 would be dope. or abandoned research environments like kondaru's outpost indigo. the diner is just usually the easiest place for most people on a lot of maps. I use john's bus dock below the mining outpost/right of the mechanics outpost personally

Part of why I've enjoyed bombing the diner in the past is because unlike a big tiled room, it actually has furniture and windows and the like, to see how your bombs interact with a more realistic "station setting". I'd enjoy a few faux department options for the bomb testing range, with tables and lights and stuff. It'd be a lot more work, but I'd also never use the diner again if I had somewhere which replicated the station more accurately.
