Ouija service bell for roboticists
#1
I've been getting frustrated a lot hanging around waiting in observe ghost for roboticists to queue up a cyborg to dip into, and nagging in LOOC and spamming the dead chat are obviously not the solution to this problem because like, it's annoying and rude and something I've been driven to in frustration and gotten rightly bwoinked for it.

My suggestion is, what if the roboticist lab had a sort of "service bell", I'm picturing a small blinking light that beeps faintly when a ghost is pressing on it from beyond, just to gently nudge the roboticists to let them know somebody wants in without outright breaking kayfabe like LOOC chat. Ideally it'd be subtle enough not to be annoying but clear enough that it's audible when things are quiet. I think it would serve as a good compromise for borg players that want to join mid round but don't want to go the route of spawning as a staffie (for instance, if their character is always a cyborg and never human).

Curious to hear your thoughts.

Other codebases have this in the form of a "Positronic personality detector" type device that lights up when there's someone that's interested in latejoining as a borg/etc. I could definitely work here, but latejoining as a borg requires backing out from being a ghost and using the latejoin menu rather than it being a seamless transition from ghost > borg, so it may need to have some differences, or a ghost role queue system, etc.

I'm actually not sure about this idea but while I sleep on it, one thing I'm reminded of straight away is this thing

It seems mechanical enough to justify the roboticist using it over the weegee board. Or using it to be informed of the weegee board. Or just as a fun tool for spotting when ghosts are near as a goof. (the device itself is a purported EMF detector for those who have not uh, been exposed to this sort of thing. It's basically just some circuitry depending on your view that lights up randomly/while near electrical currents, or detects EMF disturbances that might be ghosts)

I do like this concept as it allows "dead players" to be reborn as borgs...

But you can technically do that when you are allowed to respawn as a new charater and borg bodies are available with those "brains that allow late joiners"
But.... I think I prefer this methode abit more with the ruling: "You will not be able to respawn as a human and you will not bring up your previous life."

maybe give robotics a ghost catcher that can transfer ghosts into any cyborg with the appropriate intelligence module connected to the catcher? though yeah, id love to see ghosts be able to quietly ask roboticists to give them a cyborg to enter

I have some fond memories of the positronic sniffer on other /tg/.

One time there was a wizard round where ghosts were visible and could point but couldn't speak and in my sniffer spamming the roboticist threw the board for the sniffer down disposals and I got an engineer to follow me to disposals and rebuild it just for the roboticist to pay the engineer to throw the board into the supermatter.

Another time there was a roboticist who frequently abandoned robotics to make a mini-medbay in the library and an admin even shot some harmless pods with positronic sniffers right outside of their mini-medbay and for a short time me and a few other ghosts were spamming the sniffers.

Other times when there are just a lot of ghosts and nothing to watch I'll ask them to help me spam the sniffer and for about 30 seconds the sniffer will be constantly going off and the roboticists will be pointing at the positronic cubes rapidly while nobody enters the cubes.

At some point I was on monkestation and was spamming the sniffer while the roboticist made a bunch of positronic cubes and was spamming them at about the same rate of me spamming the sniffer and I kept at it for like 40 minutes.

In conclusion, it should be really annoying but able to be muted in case a roboticist really doesn't want to hear it.
