Synthetic humans or "Plant mutantrace"
#1
I figured this might be a decent suggestion, especially since all of the prerequisites are in the game already so I figure that slapping them all together for a mutant race would make sense!

The idea is a selectable mutant race of synthetic humans, or plant people! Composed of flowery viney arms and legs by default, selectable flower colours and even a small array of various green tints to their regular torso and head skin! And of course all of their organs would be the synthetic counterpart too! As a fun side perk, allow the character to select a type of flower during character set up, and exchange a small amount of health to be able to "pick" one of these flowers from themselves during the round!

After looking through all of the synthetic organs that are available I see a few things, mainly lungs that offer a slight advantage, for example being able to filter out carbon dioxide and produce oxygen in the room they breathe in, so I'll elaborate on a few potential balance or mutant race perks down below here.

They should basically have an inbuilt weakness to fire, being literal plants it makes sense. The current character I play as a synth person has the trait that makes it so they're horribly vulnerable to fire, and I believe this should come as standard for the mutant race!

Potentially for RP servers mainly, the thirst motive should have more detrimental consequences if left unchecked! Perhaps a harsher stamina penalty?

A fun few other thing is, give potential food buffs to the character if they consume compost, or plant nutrients!

That's a super basic idea for a new mutant race anyways, please feel free to drop any feedback!  jons the catte

standard "it will inevitably be unable to be worked on until the mutrace refactor is finished" answer aside, I think this is a cute idea but that they don't seem to be super mechanically different from regular humans, which sort of goes against the mutrace design principles of goon. personally I'd like plant people to have some sort of inherent interaction with light levels, since that would add an interesting dynamic to the choices a potential plant person player (a PPPP) would make that don't come up for anyone else

sounds good. honestly ive seen alot of folks try their hand at plant people so i think this would be desired addition & since a good chunk of assets are already in it should be slightly less of a coding bellyache. and synthEverything is grown at ease in the setting, why not synthpeople walking about?
would be a good candidate for something fresh & sparkly after whenever the big mutrace code rework happens.

my two cents would add character customization skintones to wade a bit into the fantastical. even if its just a tint of a tint. if youre a plantguy the rest of your body GOTTA have the option to be a lil green or a lil autumnal at the very least.

cough cough add squiddys to character setup option cough cough good excuse to kill the kudzupeople code ya know you guys want to

Love the idea. I don't personally feel like mutantraces need to offer a ton of differences in playstyle or experience to be worth implementing, but the ones you've come up with are nice.

I have a few extra ideas I'd like to throw out there for fun, if we're dead-set on making their playstyle differ from baseline humans:

- Are allergic to / poisoned by anything that contains meat, but merely being in well-lit areas provides a passive photosynthesis effect which (very) slowly refills their hunger motive.

- Lost limbs can be re-grown via a 30-second process that fully stuns them, and costs an immense amount of "sustenance" (think Saurians and tail re-growth)

I do like the idea that a few of you have suggested about a light sensitive sort of deal. I imagine it'd be a pain to code though!

as for Kates post the bit of "- Are allergic to / poisoned by anything that contains meat" we do get fly traps and a few plant species that feed from flesh, we could potentially have it so you don't draw as MUCH hunger motif from meat as you do from other sources?

> all prerequsities are already in-game
not true, mutantrace refactor needs to finish before any new ones can be added

> rp motives having a larger impact
not a fan of more mechanical differences being introduced between rp and classic

i dont have any real thoughts on the idea though aside from that

I think it sounds fun, though there could also be a natural buff for those working in botany perhaps? Just as a mix of of a buff and debuff to the possible cost of the race

Being a flower person would be nice. But being a apple person would be hilarious.

Generic "we need to finish muterace rework first" disclaimer aside;

Plant people are cool and seem (to me) a very easy and logical addition to the muterace roster, fire vulnerability is cool, breathing CO2 and leaving oxygen behind seems really cool and flavorful but also potentially a balancing nightmare, unless they just need significantly less CO2 or come with a portable tank (á la plasma lungs), because I shudder to think of stations having permanent breathing problems because it's 50/50 plant people and not plant people.

Photosynthesis seems like a no-brainer too, but light checks are non-trivial and kind of expensive so we may need to either revamp the lighting system or find some sort of jank solution to make it work. But basically, plants in the dark can't breathe, which seems like a cool unique restriction.

Maybe they could also "talk to plants" and get like, a more detailed breakdown over the plant's status when doing botany stuff, and there ought to be some kind of interaction with kudzu (which itself needs a rework).

Would be interesting to treat them like mobile planters.

Eat a seed, grow a crop. Maybe drink chems to manage its nutrition.

Oh I actually super like the idea of eating a seed and being able to "pick" the crop off themselves later on lmfao. The amount of times I've had RPd "plucking" a rose out of my hair or arms for whatever reason and just pulling a rose out of my backpack but actually being able to do it would be amazing. Also yes to the drinking chems part, the character already drinks Compost and plant strength formula like coffee, perhaps drinking these could give minor food buffs or satiate hunger / thirst meters for the mutant race?
