Listening Post access discussion
#1
Recently listening post access got reworked from needing an agent card to get in+out to permanently opening once any Traitor, Nukeop or Sleeper scanned their hand and while I agree with the goal of this change I do not think the outcome has been great. I don't like how once someone knows the post is open (syndicate announcement, space suit, clothing, etc) that they could just get in for free. I think a middle ground should be found where its not an impenetrable fortress but its also not completely open.

My suggested solution is that the post remains sealed (hardened, unhackable, etc) and visibly bolted until a Traitor, Nukeop, Sleeper scans their hand or anyone with syndicate access (e.g. agent card) scans their ID, after this the doors become hackable and breakable but require access to open and close (traitors/nukeops/sleepers can still scan their hand to open the doors for a few seconds). This creates a nice middleground where if you NEED into the post to stop someone you can break in, the person inside gets a warning but also its harder to just go there for loot when you know someone has been there.

Have there been more cases of people breaking into it? I haven't noticed non-traitors getting in personally (didn't play a lot of traitor either recently), but if it becomes a problem then some more restrictions might be needed.

If this is happening on RP, I think it's ahelpable per the rules? Non-antagonists shouldn't be going into the listening post, period.

RP-wise, you still shouldn't be hanging around waiting to see if someone's going in, but if you have a legit IC reason to think that there's someone there (there's an announcement, someone goes there in a pod, etc) then yeah you can go in.

One of the big reasons for this change was that people (including/especially on RP) were treating the listening post as a place to run to and just bunker up and be unassailable, and either do powergamey stuff like build a lawrack/AI or just yell over the radio to a station that could do nothing to meaningfully interact except... also yell. The chance is meant to encourage more movement and interaction.

If people start using it regularly for "drip" or treating it like a clubhouse, let us know that's going on. We can make ongoing adjustments to try to keep rounds fun while letting people be creative with their antag behavior.

Gotcha! I thought it was forbidden, but that's probably my own aversion to doing anything in the gray-area.

Good change!

Add syndicate-only turrets set to lethals into the listening post. That should sort out random intruders quickly but make dedicated raids possible, although harder to pull off.
