Why not just let people grab onto pod's as they fly? Give borgs the ability too? So people can hitch a ride!

Give pods an escape-method secondary system: When used, it fires the driver out of the back in a special, well made container (like a cooler looking crate) away from danger, With the chance of crash landing somewhere cool or something.
