Make genetics able to produce a clone data disk
#1
Genetics is a job that can be very isolating and limited in its responsibilities. Usually doctors give out mutadone or even heal the poor irradiated test subjects monkeys staffies. Usually its literally sitting in front of the console all day praying to the RNG gods that you get a nice gene that might even make it into the gene booth. Supposedly it was once a geneticists job to clone people.

Now to get a little more interaction with the crew and give slightly better odds of being revived in certain cases lets make genetics able to make their own cloning data disks. The process would be:
  1. Get an empty data disk
  2. Shove it into the genetics console
  3. Enter the storage section
  4. Hit "Write to disk" or "Store" or something catchy and remove the record permanently from the storage section
  5. Eject Disk
  6. Leave it in med to hopefully be cloned eventually maybe quite possibly

Who shouldn't this work on:
  • People that start not being on crew manifest
  • Puritans (If someone with medical training tries to write the data they will get an error saying something catchy otherwise just clone fail them)
  • optional: Hivemind members (not sure if they can be cloned currently so might as well throw it in here) since cloning a husk and pulling them out of the hivemind would be massive in terms of information gain this maybe should be prevented

Ideas, balancing concerns, catchy phrases that fit in the genetics console and general feedback are all appreciated.

Being able to clone people whose body is destroyed/records deleted seems very overpowered. This would mean that a sec off would basically never stay dead because a security member can just walk into genetics and not even have to worry about retrieving a body or a disk.

Since it would be a one off thing per person and is limited by access to both the console and data disks it might not stupidly easy to do. But excluding sec from round start might be a good idea

You can already make a disk with someone's DNA. You just have to clone scan them first. Being able to do it without a clone scan would be stupid and make dying even more meaningless because you could be cloned without being scanned.

exactly as what sord says, although, it would be nice if there would be a box full of empty disks close to medical, just to hint that you could do just that

This I agree with... cause either buying empty disks or going to technical storage (if you have access) is not a fun way of finding disks.
Maybe in the MD's office?

Cog1 used to have a box of data disks near the cloner, but it must have gotten shuffled out at some point mistakenly during the years. A PR to add some data disk boxes near cloning to maps in rotation would be a good idea.

This would fit snuggly with what this PR is meant to do, and would help to give more strength to the idea that geneticists are the guys behind cloning, but I'm afraid of giving the guys who stare at a monitor the whole shift a responsibility as big as taking care of the cloner, because you'd find out that some players simply don't care about anything outside or even inside genetics except the GeneTek.
