Revert the rename of NTSO to NT Secuirity Consultant
#1
Consultant is just such the wrong title for the job the NTSO has. It just feels like a job should go around with a suit and a clipboard and point out that the brig windows are made out simple glass and not plasma glass, which is bad for the overall security. The title suggest it's a job that should not have a gun, nor a badge, nor armour, but a suit, pen and buisness card.
A few people on discord got some name ideas if the original NTSO name is unwanted by devs:
-Central Command Security Officer
-NT Protection Detail
-NT Security Agent
-NT Security Specialist
-Blueshield Officer

I think a good name would be something that ends up with the acronym NERD.

NTSO is a whitelisted only job and is the most heavily armed Security member that spawns in.

NTSO whitelisted only together with HoS, infact a NTSO will spawn after a HOS spawned.

So I am going to say no to these changes, but........
We can add a this as a new custom job.
After all we got VIPs , Regional Directors and Inspectors.

But this is basicly a hard nerf to security for players who are TRUSTED as security by admins. Aka not every guy can draw play this class.

You might have misunderstood me, but I am talking about how the new name of the NTSO which is Consultant, does not fit the job anymore. I am not proposing to do changes, I propose to revert a bad change. Please refer to commit https://github.com/goonstation/goonstation/commit/49a84f58cfc1e2f4ff27650b2949c8f19545902a and reread my post.

yeah i'm not too keen on the name change, it's kinda wacky that your 'consultant' pops up doubly strapped with tactical webbing and an armored spacesuit.

'Operative' might have made it sound too tacticool but Consultant makes me think of the ex-military guy who might just have their standard-issue handgun, a clipboard and a big salary.

I would have just been fine with nanotrasen security officer, or security representative, something more suitable for a fellow who is presumably still in service.

name does not fit ntso at all now, ntso is supposed to be a elite sec that is the rigth hand of the hos and yes he does gives the hos advice and works a bit as command sometimes on emergency but new name makes it look like he is just a dude that gives tips and advices instead of being the most heavily armored (this doesnt mean the gear is good tho) on station....

I mean the name does clarify that theyre there to consult security instead of just be blue supercop. Honestly I think the name being a bit dweeby is good because it counteracts the edgy tacticoolness of the rest of the role.

it's be noted a bunch of times when the conversation about the role of ntso comes up, by frequent players and admins, that the ntso/c's role is outside of the chain of command and to work as a central command designated consultant to the on-station security team. the name reflects the design mantra.

we got a gun buff anyways.

A lot of people were seeing NTSO as an edgy lone wolf one man army, with their own personal armory. This led to the idea of NTSO being more of a wetworks/military type role, versus a consulting/advanced sec off role. While consultant may not be the right word, I definitely think this is 100% the direction the role should move in.

While they still have the personal armory, I think the name of consultant is definitely more of a hit to the job archetype.

my main concern is the name reflects only the gameplay mantra, which doesn't align well with the supercop equipment they're given, and their frequent role of being the second capable security member aboard.

Definitely happy to drop 'Operative' so we stop pedestaling it as this big supercop, but consultants are all about teaching, not doing. there are more suitable boots-on-ground names.

That or they can have their tacticool operative gear stripped, that'll fix the supercops shrug

How about this... NTSC Nano Trasen Security Commander. Fits better.

Also my former post missed the change in name... sorry. But I still hold firm to the split em into two jobs then.
Consultant and Commander.
Commander is NTSO's new name
Security Consultant is a new job.

security commander comes off as overruling the HoS imo

I dunno if joking or not about this but I've unironically suggested this before. (And removing NTSC on the whole)

A counter to Mouse's suggestion: Nanotrasen Enforcement and Regulation Detail

Nah, if the lack of a tacticool name makes people adverse to playing the role, kinda makes me wonder what they played it for in the first place
