Mentor Application - Munien (Elijah Retluoc)
#1
Usual character name: Elijah Retluoc
BYOND username: Munien
Discord username (if you are on our discord): Munien

Recommended by (if applicable): Red (DreadPirateRed via Discord)
Goon servers you play: 3 & 4

Reason for application + game experience (300 word minimum):

The reason I'm applying for mentor is that I had some great people teach me a lot of things (and continue to do so all the time) throughout my time on goonstation and I want to give back to the community. In the year and a bit since I started, I've always been incredibly appreciative of all the people who taught me so much, and I really enjoying passing on that knowledge onto others whether it be through IC, LOOC, or on the discord group. I've spent many shifts dedicated to teaching, in many different departments, and seeing someone learn and develop (especially when you see them later down the road) is a great experience! Some of my favourite moments in ss13 are when I have been teaching someone something, and they hit that "A-ha!" moment where everything seems to click. In a game with such a deep variety of jobs and mechanics, it's really enjoyable to keep learning and teaching as much as possible!
I have played pretty much every role a decent amount and have a pretty good understanding of a lot of the games general mechanics, maps, etc but I'll go over some of the different areas and where I specialise and where I lack knowledge.

Civilian: I've played a lot of rounds in civilian roles, especially when I was newer so jobs like bartender, chef, chaplain, janitor, and botanist I am very familiar with (though I definitely have a lot more to learn when it comes to botany). These roles were some of the first I played so having people teach me what was what helped me not only get better at the roles but for learning a lot of the games base mechanics.

Engineering: I have quite a lot of experience in many different areas of engineering. I know a lot of the mechanics of quartermasters and spent many shifts teaching people how to turn a profit with ease! I have also spent quite a lot of time doing mining and mechanics, and know my way around a bit of mechcomp stuff, or enough to have spent many shifts teaching people how to make functioning teleporters! Finally while I am yet to learn to properly set up the TEG well (though this is my next thing on my lisft of things to learn), I'm now familiar with the singulo engine and know my way around other engineering tasks such as repressurising, fixing breaches, etc.

Med/Sci: While relatively new to medical, I've put in a lot of shifts and learned a lot. Having some really good teachers helped me quickly get my head around a lot of the really important things when it comes to stabilising and treating patients, as well as some robotics. I also have quite a bit of experience in science, and have spent a lot of time teaching people chemistry and artlab. My downfalls in this area are genetics and toxins research but I am currently trying to learn genetics to better understand more areas.

Command/Sec: Security is my home and I have spent more shifts then I can remember teaching people, whether it be as an officer or as HoS. Similar with command jobs, I spent a lot of time as HoP, Captain and RD over the past year!

Thanks for reading my application!  bee

Previous bans (while this will not affect your application lying about it will): none that I know of!

Munien is a nice person who's very active on the discord; where I've seen them answer questions about the game and help those if they need it. They have a great OOC attitude and Elijah is a character who stood out to me as being a friendly face to everyone. I have faith they'll do a great job as a mentor.

calm, gives everyone the time of day if they're new or old or somewhere in between

I second what Naps has said. I've only had good experiences with Munien over the past month or so. From what I've seen, he's good to everyone in Discord and in game. I gave them a +1 on their HoS app and I'll give them a +1 here too. So... +1 from me.

+1 I've seen them go out of their way to teach new players, especially in security. They actively encourage new players and help them learn the basics. I have no doubt they'd use the mentor role to continue this.

Hello, I kinda wish I made the title if this app to include my character name (Elijah Retluoc) because generally I think more people would recognise me by that than my Discord username, so if it would be possible for someone to amend that it'd be great, otherwise no problem. 🙂

Munien has been extremely friendly both in game and out, and I often see him including both new and old people in things. I haven't dabbled much in Sec but was very welcoming to me when I popped in. Very active, in and out of game, and knows his stuff. +1

I've played quite a few rounds with Elijah, and they always enhance any round they join. Most of my experience with him comes from security, and he's always a positive force I know I can rely on for anything, as well as teaching the newer officers the ropes. Good RP and all around friendly to everyone, as well as quite patient.

Recently, I've seen him playing a lot of different jobs, and by my estimation, has a solid grasp of everything I've seen him do. I think Elijah would be a great addition to the mentor team. +1

Munien has always been an amazing player to play with, and they are always interested in helping! When I was pretty active in security, they always taught the new sec how to be a good officer!

+1 from me for sure.

Elijah is always a nice person to play and chat on discord, definite +1 from me.

I have personally witnessed the development of damn good Sec Officers thanks to Elijah's training. He works his ass off to do his job right every shift no matter the department and is the first to volunteer to help anyone who needs it. He's always a delight to roleplay with and someone I know can count on no matter what the situation is. To put it bluntly, Munien is already a mentor in every way that matters. He just needs his name in purple.
+1 Cannot recommend highly enough.

Munien, is always great to see! very kind and friendly! and has lots of experience in different jobs, ive seen them teach lots of different people! like security, and has helped so many security assistants learn the ins and outs of security! Munien is also patient when teaching! both OOC and In Game, i feel they are always so kind!! and would make a great Mentor! +1

I haven't gotten to play security with Elijah more than a couple of times, but I've observed a tonne of rounds he's played in (and hosted a bunch of admin gimmick rounds that he HoS'ed for) and I am pretty confident that he would do a good job as mentor. Fun and friendly ingame and on discord, good at involving other players in his RP too! I think he'd be a great asset to the mentor team and would use the additional tools well. +1 bee

I haven't gotten to play as many rounds with Elijah as I'd like, and that's a damn travesty! They're a wonderful influence in the discord, and I don't think I've ever had a negative interaction with them. They'd make an awesome mentor.

I have a whole list of wonderful things to say about Munien. They've been around for pretty much the entire time I've been playing the game and its always been more than positive.
They helped to teach me sec at the beginning and I'm still learning things from them in multiple departments. Furthermore, they're an incredibly helpful and kind player.  Working in multiple roles, I've seen a willingness to help new and experienced players learn, as well as understanding when to put the foot down.
I think he would make for a fantastic community ambassador, its hard to find a better candidate.
