Bee genetics mechanic

Bees. Bees are great. You know what's not great? Only botany gets them.
Canonically, Bees are GMOs, so it would make sense to let genetics have some fun with them. This is a B E E G request, and the first one I'm making, so feel free to reject this. I just feel like bees are a goon icon, and as such, should have more roles in gameplay.

Honestly I'd be interested in seeing a chicken-breeding type system for bees, or a pseudo-genetics system for them. Gives extra actual use to the 5 botanist slots or however many it is.

Bees are sentient creatures, Chickens are not. It would be really weird to breed sentient creatures.

really? i thought it was just bombini that was the sentient bee, could we change the lore so that sentience is a special and rare space bee mutation and not the default for all space bees?
