Right now when a mediborg needs to use pills or autoinjectors on a patient we have to dispense it from a vendor and instruct the patient to use it on themselves. That usually works if they are conscious and willing to do so, but if they are unconscious we then need to find another person just to do it for us, which can take time that we may not always have depending on the patient’s condition. There have also been a number of times where people have just run off with the dispensed medicine, leading to a waste of supplies that could prove to be fatal if the desired medicine can no longer be obtained due to it being out of stock.
So here’s my suggestion: the Port-A-Nanomed being given the ability to administer autoinjectors or pills directly into an adjacent patient. The target could be set by dragging and dropping the Port-A-NanoMed onto someone, and the process of dispensing medicine should take a few moments while also being interruptible, similar to how a blood bag is used. During this time I also think that it would be beneficial to reset or further delay the Port-A-NanoMed's ability to teleport, just to make sure that it’s not pulled away while it’s in use. If the targeted individual moves away from the Port-A-Nanomed it should return to its default state of dispensing medicine onto itself.
This addition would mainly benefit mediborgs, but I thought that it would be an interesting way of giving them the ability to deal with certain ailments in a pinch. A cyborg would still be limited in their capabilities due to needing the required medicine to be in stock, and also because the Port-A-NanoMed would need to be moved adjacent to the patient, set up to dispense the medicine, and then activated followed by the aforementioned process.
As the medicine would be dispensed through the Port-A-NanoMed rather than an external injector, it would also cut back on the amount of empty autoinjectors being left on the floor, something that I think some players would appreciate.
I thought this could be a nice quality of life change for mediborgs without straight up giving them hands or some kind of whitelisted mag tractor, which I have seen suggested a few times already. I don’t think the AI should be able to set a target for the Port-A-NanoMed themselves (I’m not sure if they can already set output targets for fabricators and similar machinery or not), but they would still be able to administer medicine remotely using the suggested method once it had been set up by a third party.
That’s all there is to this suggestion, so thanks for giving my idea a look. Any feedback would be appreciated.
