Traitor Botanist item: Produce Launcher
#1
The idea is simple, load up a produce bag and the launcher will shoot out the produce inside at a high-ish speed. The larger the produce the more damage it does, and explosive tomatoes detonate on contact.

Just a simple reward for the botanist to actually grow things even though he's a traitor.

while i like the idea it would just get loaded with exposive tomatoes and basically be a discount rocket launcher. would have to have some downsides, like very slow reload time or something

Salad shooter, auto-chops inserted produce and launches it at high speed. Add a bowl to shoot a salad. Can insta-attach veggielimbs and organs.

So, a Rock-It launcher but it loads a produce bag instead of 7 items?

Definitely needs a drawback for what could be a potentially 50 shot rocket launcher that you no doubt have as many other bags of tomatoes as possible.

And noticeably growing shit tons of tomatoes isn't really a drawback, since people rarely go to Hydro if they're not Hydro staff and thus rarely suspect a thing til the damage is done.

The tomatos should just do the standard delayed explosion thing if y'all are so concerned about it being a rocket launcher, just don't have them detonate on impact

Or tomatoes are too fragile for the launcher and splatter inside of it! Including the explosive ones!

This has very interesting applications though. Carrots would serve as sharp projectiles that get lodged in you (but make you see better!), potatoes would do brute damage, rainbow melons would fucking tear through your skull... Dang, there really is a lot of applications for this. Mostly lethal.

Yeah thinking more about it the explosive tomatoes shouldn’t be usable in it, but here are some more dumb interactions with specific types of produce,

Bananas should leave banana peels on the ground after hitting their target (or the wall)

Most soft produce should splatter (of course) but maybe watermelon would break into slices

herbs should maybe do cutting damage and leave small amounts of bleeding damage and trace amounts of whatever reagents they contain in the bloodstream. (Weed will leave trace amounts of thc, rainbow weed leaves thc and lsd) but when I say trace amounts I mean like one unit or less per hit, and not be effected by potency. Don’t want to make it too crazy. And after being shot they’ll just stay on the floor to be picked back up again.

Steel wheat could do bleed damage and stick into the person’s body like staples in the staple gun.

Onions could fog up eyesight for a small amount of time (after all they would smash apart on impact and make some fumes).

Also maybe it take up both hands when being held, and shouldn’t fit in a backpack.

Or maybe even have a slight move penalty if it turns out to be overpowered.

I don’t know, but I just feel this item could be a really fun addition to the game.

Botany does definitely need some love. Its choices are either somewhat less than reliable corpse destroying monsters, a very obvious melee weapon, or being really fucking inconvenient.

A machine gun like weapon that does a little over scratch damage per shot seems like the best option, since the large number of shots would make sense.

Pumpkins should get stuck on a target's head, blinding them until removed (simple click remove no timer). Somehow this should lead to the possibility of jackolanterns being used and giving people jackolantern hats.

after produce runs out the seeds get shot out shotgun style

At the very least, just being able to attach a produce satchel to it and have it fire contents rather than have to trow them would be good enough
