Headspider Suicide Support Group
#1
Hi everyone,

My name is Recusor. I meant to make a post about this earlier but I forgot. A couple of months ago I had a fun experience as a changeling that led to a massacre in medbay that culminated in my body being destroyed but I was lucky enough to have my headspider detach and implant in a nearby crew member. While it was obvious to all who had been implanted and with us being so close to medical equipment I was very sad when the crew member who was implanted was able to simply suicide/succumb and then be cloned.

What do people think about removing the suicide command option for people who have been implanted by a headspider, or at least rendering ineffective? ("You try to hold your breath, but something is stopping you!" ?)

Them bashing their own head in with a fire extinguisher or spacing themselves seems fair, but the instasuicide command sucked frown

If I recall, this has been mentioned in another thread but I'm too lazy to look for it right now. It was regarded as a dick move in that thread.

I was 100% sure that there was a check on if you've been headspidered that prevents suiciding in the code.

Edit: it's commented out in 2016 for some reason.

I'd be fine with adding this back if it was actually feasible to cut the headspider out. Right now, it takes on average around 20-30 seconds for a headspider to possess the host, making it a practically guaranteed second chance if there isn't another person with surgery tools and table nearby.

What I would love is if the headspider was player controlled, and once infected someone, could move around inside their body, requiring a more complicated surgery

I saw an idea a while ago where not only did getting headspidered stop suicide, but succumbing, instead of killing you, would instantly give the changeling control.

Thread in question.  Here's my opinion taken from the original thread.

I'm pretty much the same as I was. Blocking *suicide is fine because it's too easy. Blocking suicide (*succumb) is not. My opinion would be different for old-ling (not old-old-ling), but new-ling is pretty damned potent with the whole spawn-an-army thing.

My ideal would be making them into a postmortem (pseudo-death?) ability you can use if you have the points for it. Basically a cloned eyespider you can pop-off at will accompanied by a click-on-target ability to jump down a sucka's throat.

Right now they're either 'shit, it got stuck in a corner - it's boned' or 'hah, McPub's stuck in a corner - they boned'.

Maybe instead of a head spider, it is visually similar to an eye, hand, or leg one and instead of jumping down the throat it replaces the limb or eye of the host before taking over

There's been a lot of admin discussion about this in the past but nothing concrete was ever decided on. Also everybody was too lazy to do anything. I think the general idea is to just rework the headspider though as it never works as intended really.

From the looks of it the headspider should do a pounce attack that allows it to land on a victim, attack them for maybe a little brute, and also stun the victim long enough for it to enter unless disturbed by someone else.

Also, suicide while headspidered should give a message like, "You feel something fighting against your attempt to suicide."
