Remove the Security Officer's optional goals.
#16
I either kill or permabrig antags if I catch them. I'm just playing the role that is Security Officer. Letting them have a unearned chance to kill or hurt more people is not what a officer should be doing. If normal players are being effected then yeah this needs to be change or the security officers doing it need to be punished harshly for it, but if it's just antags being effected then I fail to see the issue.

and most of the time if I am playing on Cog1 or Cog2 they escape with ease.

90% of the time, the entertainment comes from antags doing shenanigans.  If those fun generators are kept in the brig, it leads to boring rounds (assuming no one comes up with a fun gimmick, which is pretty rare for non-antags) especially if they're caught early on.  While it may be possible for them to escape, it's unlikely as, one, people rarely tamper with the brig beforehand and, two, even when they do, they tend to get thrown into brigs that lead to death if they try to escape anyway (cog 1's Solitary in the main brig, for example).

This is more or less my attitude as well; taking the antagonist out of the round early by execution or permabrigging takes the drama out of the round. Provided they haven't gone on a killing spree, I usually just strip them of contraband, give them some brig time, and then keep an eye on them after they've been released.

It does give them the opportunity to retaliate, but that's what drives the round. It gives Security someone to chase around, Medical patients to treat, and Engineering things to repair.

Blegh, this seems more like a culture issue than an issue with the actual objectives.

Maybe make it more clear what an antagonist is? I don't know.

I don't like the objectives because you can get multiple at once, asking for one in the brig and one on the shuttle. Id say just remove those 2 and change em to more mall cop'y things

Objective: Arrest yourself.

It is. Always the sec threads, right?

Contrary to my usual self, I'm gonna avoid derailing a topic for once. The objective in question is too situational which does lead to (silly) people manipulating situations to fulfill them. That's okay usually, but this deals directly with incarceration, which is generally scrutinized to a relatively high degree.

In order to avoid any (possible) confusion, unfair 'punishment' and admin headaches, removing said objecting would not be a bad idea. I mean, do people really care about the objective enough to fight for it? It's a net gain.

Yeah I dont care for objectives at all. So if this gets removed I don’t care in the grand scheme of things.

For real. They're not suggestions, but I don't think I ever go for them and if I do it's never just my objectives but whatever fun junk I think to do that round

I'm a quest nut, if it doesn't look impossible then I'm gonna try and do it

Please don’t do this thing unless they’ve been like, murdering folks or station bombing. Finding contraband on somebody and ending their round as a result is p. lame, and also doesn’t fit any definition of playing the role of a security officer that makes sense if you’re trying to argue from a role perspective. Just confiscate the stuff and throw it in the contraband crate, brig em for a couple minutes, move on imo.

Ideas for replacement goals:
Have a traitor item in the contraband crate when the round ends
Issue a certain number of tickets
End the round with the clown's butt in your inventory.

Whoops, mistyped that. I meant they're nothing but suggestions

I like objectives like this that encourage interactions with the crew and even antagonist without pigeonholing you into keeping someone locked up

I pretty much implied I don't do that unless they have killed someone or a bunch of people. It's why I said "Letting them have a unearned chance to kill or hurt *MORE PEOPLE* is not what a officer should be doing."

People in the thread were making it sound like they catch and release no matter what a antag does and I disagree and will never let a antag live if they murder. Cause they will just do it again. HOW I kill them is another matter. One example is I dress them as a clown, paint them green, Remove both arms and one leg (sometimes the butt if I feel like it) and set them loose on the station and watch as the crew beats them to death.

I've been around long enough to know when to kill someone and when to at most give a beating. I'm not someone who ruins a antag round for someone before they even get the chance to do anything. Looking at you Ai players.

Okay, yeah, I'm starting to see the confusion.

The incidents I was talking about were ones where the people permabrigged did nothing in particular to actually harm people. One was brigged for challenging people to steal his wrestling belt in a no holds barred wrestling match, another was brigged because (and I wasn't there when it happened, just for the brigging itself) presumably he set off a contraband detector and nothing else (a civilian even assisted him in breaking out). I had to threaten the officer with brig time in the last one to get him to knock it off (and he re-arrested the guy after the shuttle took off anyways).

I can totally understand the death penalty for murder (I usually take the contrabrand and PDA, throw them in brig for four minutes (five if it's REALLY bad), and warn them to not be expected alive if they get caught again, assuming the cloner is in tact and no one was gibbed). I usually borg them so they can still play though.
