Rocket Surgery: Aka make rockets and shoot them into the stars above.
#1
1: Build a rocket on the launching pad out of rocket pieces, plasma, nitrogenĀ and oxygen, with other gases included for whatever reason. Maybe even hydrogen if that's a gas in game.

2: Hopefully you have enough fuel to shoot the rocket off screen

3: Pack in satellites to aid the radio telescope or other parts of research. Or throw a monkey inside, whichever works.

4: Getting the first part wrong results in the launchpad blowing up. (which will probably almost always happen.)

Satellites could be used to aid AI, research, or engineering in whatever strange projects they have. Or maybe some traitor things like snoop into security coms.

This is probably a terrible idea, but it makes bomb making skills useful and could lead to some interesting science updates.

If the engine is powerful enough it should crash at an adventure zone area. Maybe this could just be an add-on for the escape pod ports we already have, like you could build an escape pod on that slot or a satellite launch.

just reskin pods and add in the boosting from rocket shoes

Could finally use plasma mix as a need for fuel in pods, but instead of needing it to move, it enables it to "sprint" via the shiftkey (albiet much faster), also allows you to ram things.

I like the idea of using it as rocket fuel to send out research probes. Perhaps this could be incorperated into the telescope?

Also possible terrible suggestion: Get rid of an active nuke by jettisoning it into space with a rocket, which could trigger a slightly less worse ending where the nuke ends up blowing up a different research base. Everyone stays alive, but you get a round end animation where you feel bad.

blow up the destiny

Or cogmap 2

It would be slightly entertaining if every time the crew manages to divert a nuke by rocketing it out, it's implied that one of the other goonstation maps explodes instead.
