All of the jobs that people suggested be added in this have very limited appeal. If you can suggest a job that will have appeal regardless of whether or not people are not into the gimmick I would be all for it.
bring back the filler jobs

ok answer this you fuckin nerds
what makes the game worse when you add the option of a filler job exactly WHAT makes it SOOO much worse that you can't fucking bear to see a "Lawyer" job as an option to choose in your set up sheet like cmon

I don't see the appeal of being a Geneticist but I'm not demanding that they be removed from the game even though having 2 dudes whose only real job is to stuff corpses into the cloner and press the button isn't necessary. Some people like it. Throw in some fucking lawyers or Space OSHA Inspectors or Ghostbusters or clowns or journalists or arrivals greeters or interior decorators or artists or animal rights activists or photographers or butlers or something. The closer SS13 is to a functional space station the less fun it is to play on.

I dont see any reason why those jobs need to be added in when its so easy to become a lawyer or ghostwriter already. If someone wants to be a lawyer, grab one of the suits from the courtroom and get your Id renamed. Why force a person into a filler job they may not want, when they can just grab the corresponding items and do what they want.

this is not super serious roleplay station 13 where you are forced to do the job assigned to you, if you dont want to do your job then go ask the hop for a new one. You dont even need to get a job, just fuck around do that instead.

I TOLD you, it feels different. you still haven't answered the question as to how the game would be worse with them. and no, I'm not considering the possibility of them being forced into that job as being a valid answer because otherwise they'd just be an assistant, and I already get forced into jobs I don't want (geneticist, roboticist, etc.) without them.

what you guys don't see is that most of the jobs on station are filler jobs, and the only reason you refuse to think of them that way is because you like them. if we gave medical doctors access to genetics, we could get rid of geneticists entirely. if we gave engineers access to electrician's, we could get rid of electricians, too. the rd doesn't actually do anything except take over chemistry and get high, and the hop is just a shitty gimmick generator that hands out all access IDs. and besides flavor/backstory reasons, what's the legitimate purpose its science?
if you got rid of every "unnecessary" or "filler" job, all we'd have is captain, security, medical doctor, engineer, and staff assistant. filler jobs are what make the game fun.

FrontlineAcrobat4 Wrote:Why force a person into a filler job they may not want, when they can just grab the corresponding items and do what they want. Then don't. Make them have a lower priority than assistants so you only get them if you set them. I mean it's not like being forced into a job is worse than being an assistant, anyway. Barman is pretty much a filler job and I'd rather be a barman than an assistant. Assistant is literally "there is no job for you, do whatever". Anyone who gets a filler job is perfectly free to do whatever if they want to. There is no reason not to have more jobs even if some of them are just filler. There is also a very clear difference between a job and a custom job that you get from the HoP. If you decide that you want to be a lawyer, and you go to the courtroom and get a suit, and you catch the HoP before he fucks off forever and get a card that says lawyer, and then you go around attempting to be a lawyer, people look at you, and they think "some guy doing a gimmick". It's different from a lawyer being an established thing. You're something that shows up for one round, and is then gone. You aren't a real part of the game, you're just fucking around for one round, and when you log off there will be no one who replaces you.

There's currently no real point in having lawyers anyways, I can't even remember the last time I saw a trial happen. Maybe once in the past five months. It's not worth a trial for the max of five minutes in the brig that nontraitor crimes get, and if a dude gets caught with traitor gear they get immediately beaten to death by a mob like 80% of the time*. The rest of the time security won't allow a trial because the bad dude will always get either busted out or get pipebombed/assassinated during the trial because the fucking quartermasters or something got angry about the traitor still being alive.
*Personally I think security ought to start charging regular crewmembers and throw them in the brig for murdering traitors, just to bask in the delicious tears of rage that will ensue.

I do that along with cuffing HoP's for stealing security gear 8-)

So you admins wouldn't mind at all if I did that then? Awesome if so, I start with a whole box of cuffs and only use two, so I hope that would empty that a little. 8-)

Gonna go ahead and say it'll probably be a-ok and also hilarious to do, but make an exemption for self-defense I guess. Don't throw a murder charge at someone for stopping an esword rampage, but if you want to be a real dick and charge a guy for murdering someone for having a moustache, go right the hell ahead. Also by all means throw the book at the idiots who break into security to murder a captured traitor.

Add a station crier
Give them a security radio and a notepad, Sole purpose is to tell everyone else what's going on over the radio. |
