Minor Oil Doesn't Properly Ignite at 474C on Hot Plates

Was testing out the recipe for charcoal, trying to make ash from oil. Stuck the oil on a hot plate and it got upwards of 800C before I removed it and started smacking it with an igniter instead. 10/10 would not recommend, nearly died in the ensuing fireball.
