Seriously, the arc smelter is barely used and materials is full of gimmicky unfinished shit (arrowheads/arrows, but bows only being admin-spawnable, various alloys, the material recombobulator/research system) so it makes no sense that it gets a giant chunk of pretty much square space when many other departments have weird fragmented smaller shapes like mechanics and chemistry.
