They are risking people entering their work area by the very nature of this design. The geneticists have to go out into the public hallway in order to actually get any injectors or activators for themselves.

Unless, of course, they don't want those sweet double chromosome spliced powers for themselves.

On a slightly related note, it might be a good idea to bring back the DNA scanners geneticists used to have built into their PDAs. I know that the crew's genetic potential is automatically added to the database upon arrival, but if someone gets cloned, they get a whole new set of potential genes, and it kind of disappoints me that there's not a way to add them into the database.
