add some manner of produce storage/sorter for the chef

I'd actually say it's fine how it is. It gives the chef a reason to scream at the botanists over the radio for not being organized, because a good botanist can send produce over nicely sorted and kept in produce bags that are easy to work with. And I personally find it funny whenever an annoyed/incompetent botanist uses the mail system to create a tomato tornado in the kitchen and make a huge damn mess.
Also, I believe you can just use some clever click-dragging and crates to sort through the godawful mess botany sends all over the floor. Also, you can usually just be careful clicking on the sprites to get the exact food that you want rather than right clicking and freezing up your client. (Although that's its own issue that should be worked on somehow)
