jury rigged zippy gauss gun
#1
This is A4Brogan's idea; He just kept going 'write it down' and irc derping 'n stuff and not actually posting it himself.

The idea: First you construct a zip gun.
Then, at a table, you combine it and some coils of tightly wound conductive material, the more conductive the better, and a sheathing/housing made of some sort of metal, with the various factors of the alloy being how likely the gun is to work and not malfunction in a various multitude of ways.

Combine that with a large battery, and wammo. Zippy Gauss gun.

The ammo for this gun is a combination of 'Dart Base + payload', and is crafted in batches.

Dart base can be made out of anything electrically conductive. It needs to be magnetically propellable. Just make some rods and the whittle them down to a slender bit, and fashion some stabilizing fins out of something lightweight.

Option 1 - Plain sabot. A long sharp thing. The more solid/dense the alloy the better. Infused alloys can work here.

Option 2 - Flechette in a sack. Bits of broken metal wrapped tightly in some cloth. Infused alloys can work here.

Option 3 - Chemical ball. Take some synthflesh chemical in a beaker and combine with another beaker of chemical and a mold of some sort to make essentially paintballs using the second beaker's reagents as payload for splashing on the target. Use a small amount of stabilizing agent here to make paintballs that react on splat.

Failure bits - The gun can fail in hilarious ways, especially if constructed of inferior materials.

Option 1 - The gun can jam, shooting you with shards of metal from the ammo

Option 2 - The gun can malfunction, causing a small EMP and dumping a bunch of the gun's charge

Option 3 - The gun can overheat from overuse, singing your hand and causing you to drop it unless you're wearing particularly thermal insulating gloves

Option 4- THe gun can malfunction, causing it to shock you with a bunch of its remaining charge, unless you're wearing particularly electrical insulating gloves.
