Reasons for Long ballons:
1. Balloon armor: wearing this thing is a waste of balloons, getting hit by anyone will cause it to pop, as will falling over.

Wearing balloon armor all round should be an achievement of some kind, because I like to imagine there's at least one crimer who would pop it on purpose.
Also it would require a lot of balloons and be a project by itself.
as for sprites I have no idea how it would work, maybe it just disappears and leaves some balloon litter after it pops.
