Oh, one idea that I've seen suggested: have those red eyeball plants hop out of the tray when fully grown, becoming red eyeball critters that just run around and stare at things. Stops botanists from chainsawing them the moment they see them for taking up space, gives them a neat pet to keep around/annoy people with/give to the chef to be butchered.
