Better idea: Allow hiding specific things under floor tiles.

Mostly electrical components like the Mechanic's stuff, or perhaps a construction like Remote Signaler + steel floor tile = pressure plate?

Then you could build it and stick it in the middle of that little gateway between Research and the main hallway and have it open up both doors on either side to let people who get stuck inside out
